Does anybody know of someone selling reproductions of the cable for the fresh air vent on the drivers side of a 67-68?

I didn't find anything in the NPD catalog. Looks like you need to find one from a parts car or on ebay.

The plastic part that goes through the dash mounting bracket is cracked unfortunately on all of the ones I’ve seen except for my coupe. It has no plastic in that area and looks like it is made of some type of aluminum.

does anybody know if the 65-66 part the same?

In case anyone is still looking I just discovered that Virginia Mustang and possibly CJ Pony have this part for '68.

I kind of forgot about it since I have some more important things to fix. Do you know if is metal or plastic where all of these crack near the knob.

I have the original one from my 68 in my hand and there is no plastic on it except for the knob. There is aprox 2 in of steel tube after the mounting threads then 4 in of rubber crimped on one end then bare cable.

My car is a early San Jose car..

I do recall seeing the plastic ones..
Different vendors??Different assy plants???

Were 67s different? I might have taken the vent for my fastback out of a 67 coupe. Then again I probably have 3 or 4 extras where there is no metal like the one your talking about. My 68 coupe has the type of cable you are describing but I though maybe it was from another year car (replacement part).

My 67 coupe's cable sleeve broke right at the mounting point. I can pull on the cable to open the vent, but have to crawl under and hold the sleeve while I push on the cable to close the vent. Luckily, the vent stays open most of the time here in So Cal.

Cory,

On page 137 in the NPD catalog there is a picture of a reproduction 65-6 fresh air vent. There is a cable on there that looks like the majority of the ones I have had. The cables or vent were all from Metuchen built cars so that might have something to do with it. They had varying dates from early in the 67 model year to late in the 68 model year. The only one I have had with the metal was on my 68 coupe that was built in San Jose.

Your cable is probably the plastic type I’m talking about. Do you have any metal sleeving on the cable in that area?

I can't remember. It broke just before last winter (2005). It's not much of an problem for me. My car sits in storage most of the time, but will try to remember to look during the next outing.

I checked the 67 and it also has the metal clad cable.I was a little surprised tho to find it has a metal vent box as compared to the 68 which has the common plastic one with the louvered bottom....
