Hey guys,Before I surgicaly remove my hands using trunk tension rods, maybe you could give me advice. When i got my Mustang, I had to put the spare tire on the trunk lid to hold it down. Then....even with my insitance that he not remove them, my paint guy removed hinges and rods. I can't get it to raise an inch now. I have put them on everyway possible. I know they are on the right way. I just wonder if they have to be twisted or something crazy like that. Please help. I seem to recall this topic coming up a while back and reference was made to there being a left and right side. If I find the topic I'll link it here.Maybe this helps?(fingers crossed) http://www.mustangsandmore.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/011015.html ------------------ "It's better to have loved a short girl, Then never to have loved a tall" http://webpages.charter.net/adragon8u/mystang [This message has been edited by adragon8u (edited 07-29-2005).]

Hey dragon,Could it be that simple? Are the rods actually different? They appear to be the same. Maybe I have them working 180o against me. I will put on my body armor and give it a try. I almost installed the ones on my coup backwards. Well, I actually installed one and then noticed that it was in wrong. I used a large, long screwdriver to get some leverage on the rod and then very carefully slid it into place. I’ll pop up a picture of it.------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC Bla-Bla-Bla 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55

I put my rods in the slot that would give me the lightest tension. If you want more then you would put yours in a slot toward the rear of the car. [This message has been edited by 68 S-code GT (edited 07-30-2005).]

Hey Ed,Ok. I ck'd my tension rods. They arejust as in your picture. Now unless the rods themselves are different, I am at a complete loss for an explanation. My trunk will not spring at all. It will pop open with the latch but goes nowhere. And it is almost as if it is pulling closed. Please help if you have any ideas. I think they are the same but then again I didn’t look for a difference in them. I’m sure I have another set here somewhere to check out but I have to find them first. When I reinstalled them I used a screwdriver and started at a 1:00 or 2:00 position and cranked it clockwise. This is while working on the left one! Have you tried one of the other two adjustment slots?

I found a set of rods from a 70 Cougar (they are slightly different but similar) and the two rods are different. I’m still looking for a 67-68 set. The small ends point about 45 deg in opposite directions when holding the rods horizontal with the large ends pointing straight down.
