I have Ravin Z-55's on my car. What could i add to my dual exhaust system to quiet them some?
Thanks, Rino

...a pair of Dynomax Super Turbos....

Seriously, not much you can do to alter a muffler's sound. I'd change tham out for the S/T's and be done with it....

I had a set of flowmaster 40's they were also loud so I changed the out with a set of Magnaflow stainless. Now you can actually hear the radio while cruising. And the sound is cool alot deeper than the flow master.

You can put a set of glass packs in front of the mufflers. Get them with the same innenr diameter as the pipes you are running now and it will decrease your DB without reducing your flow.

Thanks guys for your input.
The mufflers sound great between 10 to 40 mph.Between 45 and 55, the resonance in the car is awful. Gets better over 60 but still is a tad noisy inside the car.

Rino, do you have a H or X pipe now?
If not they are said to make the exhaust note a little more mellow.
Or sell them and buy some dynomax Super turbo's.

An H or an X pipe would make a HUGE difference, when I installed an X Pipe in my system it sounded like a completely different (and tamer) exhaust set up.

I have ravins along with tri-y headers on my 65 fastback and with the H-pipe they sound very tame. They sound tough and mean at WOT and they just kind of have a low mean growl when cruising. I really think all you need is an H-pipe.

I think you guys nailed it pretty good. I don't have a H or X pipe on my car.
I'll try a H pipe.
Thanks, Rino

I have installed a set of glass packs ahead of the mufflers before, worked well. The best sounding factory system was on the 65 GT. I think the mufflers were resonators from a 390 Galaxy. I got pulled over for a loud exhaust one time. I said this is stock. Still got a fix-it ticket. I waited a couple of days and stuck some steel wool in the tailpipes.

I then drove down to get it checked. "Yep, sounds ok". Went home and pulled out the steel wool.

We tried that on my friend's 65 mustang in an effort to pass the Tennessee safety test back in 1977. After packing both pipes he started the engine to hear the new sound, promptly spitting a bunch of steel wool all over the driveway.

I had the GT tips with the louvers in them. I think that is what kept the steel wool in place. This was a long time ago.

I like the sound of the Borla XS mufflers on my car. Fairly quiet.

I have often wondered about adding some race mufflers along with a regular set. I wonder if this would quiet things down without effecting power.

Update! Last weekend I installed a H-Pipe to my dual exhaust. I have noticed that it did quiet it some at cruising speed while eliminating resonance (drone) between 45 and 55 mph.
Should have done it before.
Thanks guys.
