I just went out and measured the width of my rear. It's a 9", has tapered flanges and measures 52 inches. I remember reading somewhere that the HiPo Mustang and GT350's had a 9" with tapered flanges. True?

True, the flange to flange is 52 1/4, the flanges aren't tapered, the end of the tubes are, my original housing from my 65 kcode is laying on the garage floor, along with a replacement that is for sale...see classifieds

Sorry. The tubes are tapered. I heard these things were pretty valuable if original. Is there any kind of identification numbers on the housing itself?

I don't know of any stamping on the housings. Most are identified only by the back of the case, axle tubes, bearing size, and length. They are usually grouped by years. 65-66 Hipos had the smooth back with two dimples and filler plug. I think 67 on up used the notched or bump on the back with no filler plug, it was moved the the differential case. As far as value, it like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you want a 9" under your car, they can be quite expensive.
