hey all,

First thanks for all of the help in the past.

Second, I now have the motor running ok. the new ignition is a good addition. Anyway, when I got the motor I did not have a pcv valve on it at all. Ofcourse, the oil and fumes were blowing into the car. i got a spacer with the vacume onlet and got a pcv valve and hooked everthing up. Then it seemed that the problem was taken care of.

Well I went out for a drive and got to drive it hard. Hard means 75 on the interstate, I never get to do that on my way to work. LOL.

When I got home there was a film of oil all over the inside of the passanger batter/shock area. Oil on my alt and on the motor. I believe that it came from the oil dip stick which was and is down all of the way. I started the car up and reved it up. Looks like the oil is coming from the stick.

Now from what I have read that is called blow by? Does that indicate a worn motor? If so what options do I have? If it means pulling the motor (fun!) and a rebuild what will that cost and is that something that a do it your selfer can do? Is there a good step by step book that I can work from that will dumb it down for me so I don't make a paper weight of the car.

If I have to pull it I may just save my money and get a used motor with EFI or at least the EFI parts from the wreckers and got at that.

I know that a lot of you have rebuilt your motors and I think I would like to do that also but I am a little nervous about the idea.

Any info, ideas, or opinions would be a great help. Heck if anyone wants to come here and school me, I will buy the pizza and the beer. Tech me oh great ones. LOL.

You can pull the engine yourself (rent a hoist), tear it down, and take the block and heads to a machine shop. Recommended books Factory Service Manual - any mustang parts vendor (NPD link at the top of this page would be a good choice) - good for just about everything including R&R the engine. It's not rocket science. Go slow, follow directions and ask questions.
If you're interested in stepping up the power here is a good, but dated, read.

I remember when PCV valves first came out, there were problems that caused oil to blow out all over the engine. I forgot the specifics, but something was getting plugged up and the oil would get out anywhere it could, like the dipstick. Is the entire PCV system hooked up like it is supposed to be?

the pcv valve goes to the spacer on the carb. I checked it out. Still rattles when I shake it. the hose is not restricted. That is set up on the passenger side of the motor.

The drivers side has a chrome oil fill cap with the foam on it. The foam is a little oily though.

Someone mentioned here on another post about the compression check. If the compression is good can the rings still be bad?

Alex(Moneymaker) posted a cure for blowby not long ago. sounds like a good fix too.
