Hi I have a Motolita shelby steering wheel and I just bought 2 new horns. When I hook up the wires the horn goes on constant. I hooked up everything right but I can't figure it out? thanks

Sounds like a short in the wiring. Check the last changes you made.------------------ SkinnyMan Tupelo, MS Thank you, Thank you very much!

I once installed a Grant steering wheel with their quick disconnect kit and my horn did the same thing. There was some sort of circular piece of paper with foil on one side in the install kit that wound up being the culprit.

Are you talking about where the horn contact like brass springs are? Cause I thought that was the problem?

That does sound like the problem. I had a similar problem with a Gant wheel, the aluminum hub was stripped out, so the bolts that hold the horn plates together werent' tight, allowed the steering wheel to flex while I was driving, pushing the contact plates together and a resultant constant beep while turning. That lasted all of about 2 days and got tossed. If your is on all the time, you just have to find what is making contact to complete the horn circuit.

Hi, Do you have 3 little foam pices that go in between the two contacts?. My grant adapter kit did not come with it but it was on my old horn contacts so i just moved them. Hope this helps. Mike------------------ get your kicks in a fast 66..

I never liked that stock setup where one contact pins on the steering wheel was hot and it connected the other to the horn. I modified one car with a relay so the contacts just put a ground on the relay coil. I remember the old Grants with the cap that sort of pushed on over the contact circuit board. It has a tendency to pop off and honk the horns. After it did that to me one time, I drilled the cap on the sides and installed some nylon screws so it could not pop off.

The few times my horn buton has fallen off (yes its a grant), the horn doesnt start honking until the spring falls off too (weird huh?). Not sure if thats is your problem but look into it if possible... David F.

Na no foam pieces, just two wires that hook to the horn. Heres a pretty decent picture, http://www.mustangdepot.com/OnLineCatalog/images/Steering/ml-mk3-kit.jpg The back of the hub has like a piece of metal where the horn contacts hit, then those two wires hook to the horn button. I don't know how the horn just keeps continuously going off?

That is a step above the older types. Under the hub should be two rings that the spring loaded buttons make contact with. If you disconnect the horn button, does the horn still go off? If so something is still shorting the two wires together.

If you disconnect the horn button, does the horn still go off? No it doesn't . It seems to me like its always powered and going off, if i disconnect one wired the horn stops working. Is there a horn relay?

Nope no horn relay (at least not in 68, not sure what year you have). Im pretty sure its going to come down to the two contacts touching each other all the time. Are you sure the contacts are on the right way, not one flipped over the wrong way or something ?.. David F.
