Good evening all, I have never posted anything before but I read the posts with great interest. Anyway, I have a 66 convert. that needed a console so I bought one and then learned how to trim it. (not so bad) My question is two fold. One-how do I measure for the front support? and two- When that is done, how do I get the console in place without removing the shifter(3-speed)? I'm hoping there is a trick to it that I haven't thought of. Thanks for your considered opinions.------------------ Mustangcookie 1966 springtime yellow conv. 200 c.i. 3 sp

Are you trimming for the A/C unit? If so, there is no front support but simply a 'U' shaped chrome piece to finish it off. You should be able to get the console on with the gear lever in a gear that points it toward the rear of the car. Just a bit of wiggling should do it.

Thank you for the reply Journeyman, I trimmed my console to fit the convert and no, I don't have air. It seems there should be an easy way to do it (especially the measuring)but there is a definite lack of info in the Ford literature.I appreciate your time.

Mustangcookie, first of all welcome to M&M.As for the console fitting over the shifter, there is a removeable plate over the shifter opening. There are two screws in the opening of the storage compartment, remove them and slide the shifter plate forward. Now for the front support, my coupe didn't come with a console, and I didn't have the metal bracket for the front support. So I made my own bracket. There should be two screw holes in the bottom of the storage box, this is where the bracket is attached. To mark the trans tunnel for location, I used a long nail with just a dab of white paint on the end and placed it in each hole where the screws go, this marked the carpet to give me an idea as to where the bracket should be attached. Measure the bracket screw holes to the bracket attaching hole and mount it to the floor. Believe it or not, that was easier than drilling the holes for the rest of the console mounting along the sides of the tunnel. Good luck. ------------------ Mike Golliver MCA Gold Card Judge-Modifieds 65 Kcode coupe 347 stroker modified 5-speed MCA Retired 66 convertible-3 dueces and a 5-speed with a 289 01 Mustang GT Convt 05 F-150 4x4 CrewCab
