Hi,My 68 doesn't have the MUSTANG on the trunk lid. I bought the letters and they have studs and nuts. I was chatting with some guys and expressed concern over drilling lots of holes in my trunk lid. They suggested grinding the studs off and using 2 sided tape to stick them on. I did a search here and found this: "get 3M double sided emblem tape (3M only) and I'll bet they'll be good for 300 MPH...." Is this still the best stuff to use? Is this a good idea in general? The letters aren't real metal it's that repro-plastic stuff. Thanks as always for any comments. Gregg

Use it at work alot, take it off a lot of cars too, I'd trim it down as much as possible, likes to squish out on the sides. Then if you change your mind down the road, use an eraser wheel and tapes gone.

That is what I used for the GT350 emblem on the back of my car. That product or something just like it is used on virtually every vehicle made today. Who want to drill holes in a panel that in time could rust when you could just stick the emblem in place.

On the fenders on a 65 GT I had, used tape.....masking tape to get a straight line. The repop letter mounting pins didn't line up with orig. holes. Got tired of the whole caper, broke off the pins, used the tape as a guide and used Weldwood's Contact Glue. That was over 5yrs ago and they're still on with no casualties. Realize that it ***** up the paint, but there's no reason to remove them unless by accident or whatever. Then the surface would have to be repainted anyway. On the decklid......on the 68's I've had, left the letters off. Looked better and took me back to my no medallion or letter days. AKA nosing and decking. On that same 65 GT, had the Cobra medallions on each fender. Used the double tape on those. The tape does have an advantage in that solvent like mineral spirits poured behind the piece will soften the tape allowing no damage to paint removal. Re the letters on deck, think the tape might be noticeable as it is much higher visibility than the lower fenders. The thickness of the tape may show with such small pieces.

I went hunting for this 3M "emblem tape" just the other day after reading about it here. I came back with 3M "moulding tape". Judging from the blurb on the pack, it's the same stuff.
