Hi Guys Remember me? To make a long story short I've got a question for you. If any of you remember back in june I told you I was going to work on my car. Well I did and I was very pleased with myself for accomplishing what I set out to do. ( I have pics one day I'll get around to sending them for you all to see) Here's my question. The guy I got the best paint job price from ($7500.00) says he won't do it if I want the fenders/doors/hood/trunk painted off the car. He wants the everything hung and aligned and the car da'd before he'll do anything. Am I crazy for thinking $7500 is way to much for body and paint? Please reply Tony C*

7500 is alot if he wont disassemble and reassemble the car. I was quoted 8900 here in the Detroit area with taking the doors, hood, trunk, glass, fenders off the car media blasting then body work, repaint and then putting those pices back on the car. The only thing I have to do is remove the interior and all trim like bumpers and reassemble those items my self. Ed

Tony: go around to the local shows, or up to a guy driving a rod with nice paint. Ask him who did it and if he was pleased with the overall results. Word of mouth is the best way to find the good shops. Charlie

Sorry to reply so late but I just got back home from an emergency visit to Las Vegas. Sam, The real work is on the 1/4 panels. 2 very long seams where the new qtrs were welded on. there's a patch on one of the doors. the hood is a mess with a dent i affectionately call the grand canyon and another I call the sea of tranquility. I k new the guy was trying to rip me off which is why I sprayed the car to slow down the surface rusting process ( Thank God I have a dry garage) I may just go ahead and start the body work myself. I've used body filler before and if i find out i suck at it, I'll scrape it off and have a professional do it. but I will enjoy (when she's done) driving it by his shop. Thanks Guys Tony

That's still way too much regardless of the quarters and doors. I got a quote of $3000 for bodywork, 2 coats of color and 3 coats of clear. And this guy is good!Shop around and ask questions. Don't be afraid to talk to guys at shows for sure.

$7000 makes me choke. I once got a paint job that wasn't too bad for $250 but that was awhile ago.
