I picked up a plastic bezel for the Mach I from NPD that will fit a modern stereo. I'm thinking of going out and picking one up this weekend. Is it tricky intalling a modern stereo unit in one of these cars? Would I be better off leaving it up to the "pros" at Best Buy?

Thanks,

HH

The wiring is easy enough. Some times getting the new units to fit good and look right. Can be a little tricky. If you want a factory looking install take to a real audio shop. Yeah you'll pay a little more for the unit and install but the end results will be worth it. I've always done the installs myself. I've even done a few for others. I do an ok job, and yea I've messed up a few too.
Messure fives and cut once.
I put my modern deck in the glove box. I do have a classic looking Jensen unit in the stock location. I tend to leave my car unlocked with the windows down. I don't want some one taking my deck and messing the dash too.

Fairly easy install. If you are just going basic (no amps, subs, etc.) then all you need to find is constant power, 12V source (key on), ground, and connections to speakers. I have installed a few different stereos in my '70, and even a new one in my '95. It's easy if you take your time and make sure you are running wires to the right places.

NPD usually has quality parts. Assuming your new stereo is right for the face plate adaptor it should go well if you decide to do it yourself.

Then again, if best buy has free installation...how bad could the potential 16 year old newest guy in the shop pro do? The car before yours was probably a fuel injected electronic road jet
