I am wondering, can I install a cold air intake on my carb??? My Edelbrock filter is the sponge type, and I think the car is hurting for air. Thanks for any replies.

I did that years ago. I used the stock air cleaner and soldered a couple of round tubes to it and ran large hose to the radiator support to a couple more tubes. It looked cool but I don't think it did much. I am amazed at how much free time I had when I was younger.

Thanks Mike, I was thinking of getting a set-up if it would let it breathe better.

William,
If you want it to breath better, think about investing in a K&N air cleaner, not cheap but highly recommended. I have an oval one on my 408 and no problems getting air. PLUS, it's polished aluminum with flames etched in it that I powder coated red for the WOW factor.

Waaaaay back when I spent the summer drag racing, I experimented with little thing and cold air was one. I had a 1969 Cyclone with a 428CJ with ram air. I had an extra seal for the air cleaner so I attached it to the base and sealed it to the hood without the lid in place. The carb could only pull in cold air through the scoop then. I think I picked up about a tenth.

........I got married, got stupid and sold the car.

You could always get one of the all aluminum 5.0GT dual snorkel air cleaners and route the lhoses to the core support or under the bumper.

Thanks everyone! I do like your set-up Ernie, and I like K&N products too. I'll see what I can find. Thanks again.

This would be the cheapest way to go.

The 5.0 aircleaner won't fit on the old mustangs. The snorkels are too wide and hit against the shock towers.I've already tried that one.Look in my pics for my patented turkey pan ram air setup

William,

I have seen the ram air box that has been mentioned. I have also see a couple of home make versions. I will see if I can find the article that I have on it somewhere. This guy made his own and it worked well. Shaved some time off the quarter mile as well. There is also a article from mustangs and fords that talks about the 'ram' air set up that we are talking about. Each time with the ram the car they used ran faster.

Here is a article on it
http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/1999/12/ramairbox/index.shtml

and a article on a home made set up:
http://www.corral.net/tech/powerplant/hmramair.htm

hope it helps.

I will have such a set up if I stay carbed.

You don't have a extra 302 sitting around do you?

Richard.

what ever you do , get rid of that sponge/foam type filter.
14" round with drop base and a K&N element .
you SHOULD be able to fit a 3" thick filter.

Thanks Greg, I'm thinking I should go Ernie's route, and get some flames going.
