Just a quick question. I'm getting just under 12 volts on my gauge. Am I getting ready to have charging problems?

If the car is running you should have 13-15 volts if its off you should read about 12.68 volts.
Are the lights dim at idle and if they are does it get bright with rpm's.
Have you checked the water level in your battery and is the connection good.

I've put my electronic ignition and electric fan on their own circuits to avoid the 40 year old wiring in my car. Darn alternator is still in the old wires though.

I'm thinking it might be the battery, because the lights are not fluctuating with the rpm of the motor. I dunno. I'll throw a meter on it today.

You are not getting any output from the alternator. Check for voltage on the Field terminal of the alternator. If you have around 11 volts, replace the alternator. If there is no voltage, check the voltage regulator or it's wiring.

This was another of those think before you speak situations. Turns out the aftermarket gauge wasn't grounded properly to the frame of the dash. The battery read 14 volts and the alternator read 13.5. Duh
