Hi Guys, I am restoring a 68 coupe with a 200 engine, the question is the rocker shaft and rockers are ruined, I ordered a new set, the new ones are not adjustable and use different push rods, the originals are adjustable and the top of the push rods are a convex style rather than round, I would like to keep the adjuable style, what kind of engine do I have ? Fred

Well Fred afraid to say I know zip about the different types of straight 6's but I'd say your engine uses solid lifters hence the adjustable rockers, the non adjustable type use hydraulic lifters. Guess you've been sent the wrong type of rockers/shaft.

I'll look through the shop manual. I know the 200 came in many different year cars also. At least to 1980 ( a freind of mine had a 80 Mustang with a 200 in it)so maybe they gave you the ones for the wrong year.Is the one you have a 68 engine? ------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC Bla-Bla-Bla 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55 [This message has been edited by 68 S-code GT (edited 08-18-2005).]

Hi, Supposedly the engine is out of the 68, it had hydrulic lifters with the adjustable rockers when I opened it up, There was milage on it so I know it was built that way, if I can find out what year it is if not 68 I can get the correct parts. Thanks

Those are commonly refered to as "falcon" adjustable rocker arms. As for the rocker shaft/arms from a '60-64 Falcon and you should get what you had originally . This has been a common mod for years so somebody probably replaced it with the adjustables years ago.------------------ Tim M&M Member #35 1965 Mustang coupe, 200 I6, Holley 2300, Clifford header, true duals w/ 26" Smithys 1988 Mustang GT AOD vert, 15.810 @ 88.871 mph 100% stock w/ no traction 1991 Ford Festiva, 30+ mpg, enough said http://www.mustangsandmore.com/ubb/I65Stang.html

http://www.fordsix.com/tech/misc/casting_numbers.phpThis site will help you identify your block and head. My '68 manual says they are hydraulic and non-adjustable.

The shop manual says that you adjust the valve clearances by using longer or shorter push rods. This makes me think that the arms you are replacing were not the type that originally came in a 68-200.

As I said these are from a '60-64 Falcon with the 144/170. Starting in '65 they went to non adjustable. It's a very common mod.
