I want to paint the inside of the floor on my 66 coupe before I lay in the carpet. The floors have been pounded pretty good on this car(it was a western cow chaser at one time)so they have lots of dents and welded repairs from tears and holes. They have a little surface rust in places that would be hard to remove so I'd prefer something that goes on right over the rust.Is POR 15 the best?

Zero rust is also a good product. The guys over at autobodystore.com prefer it to POR.

due to your location i say your nuts for just painting over a rusty floor.it will just rust out inside then fall off lol. maybe not fall off but. sand it down clean it then paint it. use a rust remover jelly or something. then por 15 the bottom. up to you but if you drive it mre ten once a week and in rain then do it right.

I have used both Eastwood and POR. Used Eastwood on my rusty floor pans. Easy to use, just brushed, vacumned, wiped them with lacquer thinner, and painted them. Seven years later, and no problems. My floorpans were rusted on the inside from window leaks, heater core etc. to look at them from the bottom they looks almost as good as the day they left the factory. Used POR on my trunk floor. 71-73's are notorious for trunk leaks. It was a new replacement floor that had already started to rust a little. Brushed it, wiped it down with lacquer thinner, used metal ready on it, painted on two coates of POR 15, and experienced some solvent pop. Then I primed it with POR primer so that I could painton the spatter paint. Conclusions, Eastwood is a lot easier to use, not as many steps, cheaper, andworks really well. If I had it to do again, I would use Eastwood everywhere.

The bottom of the car has been blasted and coated already(not sure of the product used). There is just some light surface rust on the inside of the rear floor pans and its in a tough place to sand due to the ridges.I can wire wheel it but I want to put something on the metal that will prevent rust from happening under the carpet. The car isn't going to be a winter driver if that's what you were implying by my location. It's possible it may see some rain but only if we're caught out in it.

yea a daily driver type thing is wht I was thinking. wire wheel it but dont let the bare metal sit for long. and do not touch it with your hands. clean it then paint or cover right away. the air and hands carry contaminants that could allow paint to come up and start rust. I think if you wire wheel it and use the POR 15 after you should be good togo.

I just recently did the floors in the wife's '66. They also had light surface rust as you have described. I removed the rust using a wire wheel. Treated the floors with metal ready, which is a rust inhibitor and etching primer. Applied primer and then painted. They turned out great. You don't have to make the floors pretty since they will be covered with carpet. You can even leave them primered if you like. It's your car. Do what you think is best.

Yes I'm not concerned with how it looks since it will be under the carpet.Just don't want this rust to get any worse.

I had my 65 in Hawaii for a couple of years and I got paranoid looking at all the rusted out cars. So I fiber glassed the entire floor. It was kind of over kill but there is no rust.

Use the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator product, I have used it for years with excellent results and I really believe it's the best.
And no I don't have any connection with Eastwood. I'm just a very satisfied customer.

I used Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator on the welds on the inside of my floor when I replaced it and then painted over it with Rustoleum.

I have always been very well satisfied with Eastwoods products.
