Hi Guys, Need to pick your brains, what makes a 6 cyl a 200 and a 6cyl 250 is it the cyl head the block the camshaft or crankshaft, looking at all the pieces they all look the same, the reason I ask is I bought a 68 basket case and am trying to assemble an engine for it all the parts for both were encluded, someone gave me a link to find out which block and cyl head are for which engine, but will the camshaft and crankshaft interchange between engines.what makes the difference ????????[This message has been edited by fred (edited 08-19-2005).]

Im not positive on crank and valve train but, the main differnece is the height of the motor is taller has a four bolt water pump ( i think). the heads can swap depending on what years I think. so the valve train is probably the same along with the crank but is going to use longer rods for the longer stroke. I dont have my falcon six performance handbook in front of me so it is hard to tell you. also I belive the 250 maybe have a three bolt starter instead of the two bolt. but differnet years had differnet things. like an early 200 is different froma late one and same for the 250. if the heads have never been removed then look at the casting numbers on the log intake for the years. but the 200 head valve train (cam, lifters, valves are the same) to push rods are probably different. the crank is the same as well i beleve. but wait for a second opinion b/c I could be wrong------------------ 88 thunderbird TC 2.3L 66 mustang 200ci 3 speed 68 Fairlane 289 w/ auto 79 f150 300 3 onda tree

The crank is different, the stroke on a 200 is 3.126" and a 250 is 3.910". The stock camshaft for a 250 has .020" more lift than the 200, but will fit in either engine. I think the rod is also a different length between the 2 engines.------------------ Ronnie 69 mach1 351W-4V engineless at the time! 70 Torino GT 351C-4v with a "shaker" Mustangs and More Member #23

Thanks guys, Glad to hear the camshaft will work, I already had the 250 in the 200 when I found out they were different engines by the block and head codes.
