Hi Folks,
Just a quick question (Iknow this swap has been beat to death) spuured by some info that I came across while doing research for my son's (traitor) 56 Chebbie truck. When Chebbie guys swap in a GM style T-5 they trim 3/8"-1/2" from the pilot shaft and 1" (give or take) from the input shaft housing/release bearing support instead of using a spacer plate or deeper bellhousing. They do the trimming by measuring the pilot shaft and support for the original transmission and trim the T-5 to match. Is this a viable solution for Ford style T-5s? Just curiousity as I already have a late model T-5 bell.
Thanks,
Gene

There's no need to trim the input on a V-8 Ford T-5 if you're using the T-5 bell. The Ford T-5 that is longer is the 4 cylinder version and you'd scatter that on your first hard launch with a healthy V-8.

You cannot bolt a T-5 to an early bellhousing without many mods.

The T-5 bell with the spacer block for the clutch fork is the simplest way to install a T-5 in an early car, but it limits you to a 157th flywheel..
