Hey guys (and gals). I haven't posted is some time, but I have been reading. Plus I've been busy working on my car.

I got some pics:

I still have a ton of work to do though. The project budget has been blown to H*ll too. I've spent about $10K and I figure I've got about $15K to go. Oh well, it's still much cheeper than a new Mustang.

Kirk.

Kirk,
I'm impressed, so far nice work. Can't wait to see the finished project.

How much travel will you have with the "Air ride" type suspension?

I have about 6" travel. At ride highth, 4 up and 2 down. The front of the subframe is right at four inches off of the ground and the just in front of the rear wheels it is about 5 1/4". At full drop, the front touches the ground and the rear is 1 1/4" off of the ground.

The wheel/tire combo is:
Budnik "Cobalts"
18x12" rear, 335/30/18 Mich. piolets.
16x8" front, 225/40/16 Mich. piolets.

Very nice work I'm not a fan of those large rims. But they look awesome on your car.I the first picture your car has a great stance.

What are the rest of your plans for the car?

(Completed work)
Air ride (Shock wave 1000's and 9000's)
Mini tub
Chassis Works four link
Watts link
49" wide nine inch (no chunk yet)
Moser 31 spline axles
Currie (Explorer rear disc)
Full length custom sub frame
Scott's Hotrods front IFS (Must. II, R/P, disc)
Tons of rusty metal removed
Rolled rocker panels, front and rear valances.
Budnik "Cobalts". 16x8 (225/45/16) and 18x12 (335/30/18 Mich. Piolets)
All body parts sand blasted and epoxy primered. Most body work complete.

(Remaining work)
Full custom int. (lux. theme)
power window/ locks.
A/C
ECU (If I have enough money)
Roll cage (maybe)
Shaved bumper (bolts)
Custom grill
Halogen head lights/ LED tail & blinkers
Possible 1 1/2" chopped top (but unlikely)
The slickest, smoothest, blackest paint known to man. (Black is the original color [red int])

The motor and tranny combo I haven't settled on yet. It is with out a doubt going to be turbo charged. I'm leaning (heavily) towards keeping the original 289. Us a 302 crank (forged, h-beam rods, forged pistons). The heads have been cut up pretty good all ready. 1.96/1.60" valves, port and polish, decked, cc'd, screw in studs. Turbo motors don't really need radical heads anyway. A lot of the guys that I've been talking to about them use stock 5.0 heads and stock cams making 500 to 700 RwHp!!!

The tranny will be a TKO 600 or a Richmond 6-speed. 3.27 gears. Turbo motors have a torque band higher and wider than j-lo's @$$. So most of the guys are running highway gears and staying in the torque curve longer.

I have to admit that I've been a little un-true. I've been cheating. I'm sorry. Please don't make me sleep on the porch. I-I- I've been visiting another forum. But don't worry, I've never visited that other forum and this one in the same day. I've gotten checked out too, and I'm clean. I'm trying to quit.

Would it be Taboo to mention the other's name?

Kirk.

Kirk, keep us updated on your progress. I love Fords and Mustangs of all years and mods. I have a real passion for custom cars. It's something I need to do when I grow up. I sure hope your going with some kind of hood scoop too
I like the turbo idea it's still different enough on the early mustangs. Did you remove the shock towers?

Sorry, Fastymz, no scoops (if I can keep it all under the hood). It might get a cowl inducion hood though.

I have'nt completely cut the strut towers out yet. I had only cut what I had to in order to get the clip in. I had left the rest to help keep it from flexing until I finished welding it up. I plan to make some removable plates to go where the towers were.

I can't wait to here that turbo (or turbos) go......SwwweeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Kirk...

That is awesome. If possible, I would like to see more on the 4 link installation since it looks like you are using the stock rear rails. I looked into it and am wondering about vertical travel. Do you have this on a website somewhere?

Cheers,

Rick

Let me know if this doesn't work. I checked "make available to the public". You should be able to access about 40 pix.

I made the frame rails from 14 gauge steel and 2x2x.120" square tubing. All of the other parts are 3/16" steel. If you thought that the rails were stock, that's good. I copied the stock profile, added an inch of notch and made them go parallel. I didn't want a bunch of 2x4" square tubing that had been cut and welded at angles six or eight times to acheive the axle "s" curves. I wanted a smooth stock look. I still plan to build a cross member and tie all of this together with a roll cage.
