Hey all.I am putting my old dist in my 95 motor and I know that I have to change the gear. Can I take the gear off of the '95 dist and put it on my '73 dist? Thanks very much. Richard. ------------------ rmousir '66 Mustang Ford Blue & white stripes 302 auto Mustang ~ 04-05

Yes, as long as the shaft size is the same.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." cool. Thanks very much. Is there a pin or somthing that holds it on?When I got my '95 motor it was pretty much dressed and I got the dist with it. I know I need to use the old one but with a different gear. If it works it will save me some bucks. Are they are to take apart? Richard.

Yes, there is a pin through the gear, the problem is the gear is usually frozen to the shaft, sometimes you can heat it GENTLY with a propane torch then get it to slide off, to get the gear on the new shaft put the distributor in a refrigerator for atleast 3hrs and heat the gear in an oven at 300 degess for 1/2 hour, the gear should easily slide on the shaft be sure to check for the pin location as you usually get one try when the temps equalize between the shaft and gear it is almost impossible to move, also you might think of getting a new gear on hand in case you can't get the old one off. This trick can also be used whenever you have to change bearings that have a interference fit. Fred

IIRC, the 1995 distributor gear (EFI) has an inside dia of .531" while the 1973 gear is .467". Somebody may correct me if I'm mistaken.------------------ Bernie Frank 66 Fastback restomod (12.8 @ 112mph) 85 GT (preserved) 2000 SVT CONTOUR

Punch the roll pin out, and most come off with "finger" press. Note-- Sometimes the hole don't line up. Ck. it real close before you try to pound the pin in. Keith
