Does anyone know how long the wire to the coil on the harness with the sending unit wires that comes from the firewall? thanks

That varies with the engine, car, and year.

For example, a 66 car with 6 cylinder has the coil mounted down low at mid engine, whereas a 289 for the same year has it mounted in front of the passenger side cylinder head.

It should run down the inside of the driver's side valve cover until it joins a plugin at the firewall.

Hum.. The one on my 66 runs behind the heater plentium,, under the passengerside fender,, comes out under the battery,, then snakes it's way around and upto the Coil..

Obviously not a stock routing
But sounds like a nice way to clean up the wiring.
