Putting the engine back together, have discovered I have 2 pumps The No. on one is; HBA BF
IF
8A 22 C

I believe that this one came off the 68. Have another identical one, blue also, with no tag. They both seem OK. The stupid question: Short of installing one is there any way to determine condition???

This car came with a lot of extra parts that I originally gave him!

From watching my mechanic, I believe you can at least tell if a steering pump is totally shot before putting it in the car. You chuck some fluid in it, then cover one hole, turn the pulley and see if it shoots out the other hole. I believe that's how he does it.

That probably would work but I would worry about the shaft seal leaking after it has run a little. I bought two seal kits from NPD during the summer and they were still selling the Ford ones. Then again I don’t know if these are made by the after market people yet. The kit was pretty inexpensive at $10. Shows on my invoice as Seal & Gasket Kit, P/S Pump /D1AZ-3B584-A, their item # is 3B584-2.
