I'm almost sold on shipping my Autolite 4100 off to Ponycarbs, but before i do i was just wondering if any of you guys have used there service and weather or not you were impressed. If not, are there any good carb rebuilding shops in the Sac area. By any chance, does anyone know what the differences are between Ponycarbs "Standard" rebuild and their "Hi-Po" rebuild, they haven't e-mailed me back yet(smile).

I had the 2bl on my 78 F-150 rebuilt by them and it came back looking and running great. I only paid for the standard rebuild and within less than a year the steel parts were rusty again. I'm not sure what the difference is in the plating process between the standard and upgraded, but I wasn't about to pay for the upgraded plating on a work truck.

I've heard Alex speak highly of them before too, and think he might have had a hand in some of the "improvements" they do to make these things run better than new.

Don't they have standard rebuilds and concours rebuilds? The standard rebuild just uses regular replacement parts and spray bomb paint while the concours gets correct hardware and the right platings on things like the choke plate, etc.

I've used Pony Carbs in the past for several of my customers. Depends on how busy my shop was....if we were slow, we'd rebuild them in-house. If we were swamped with work we'd send them to Jon @ Pony Carbs because I could trust that it would be done right.
Now that I've left the business I have the luxury of time so if I need one done I do it myself. I don't do concours plating, but then again, with the air cleaner in place you can't see much of the carb anyway.
