I've got a 65 waterpump and 65 alternator brackets that bolt to it. I also have a 3 hole bracket that bolts to the head which is off a 1970 car.

The stationary bolt that runs through the alternator and goes into the engine somewhere doesn't line up with any of the bolt holes. I'm wondering was there a different bracket for a 65 vs the 70 that bolts to the head? If so what does it look like and where can I get one?
Also a schematic or a blown up view of how it goes to the block would be awesome. Only thing I can think of is there must be another bracket that bolts to the head? If all else fails I can just go get a set of 70's brackets to make it work. But would like to use what I've all ready purchased.
Thanks,
Luke

Luke, there is a T shaped bracked that goes to the head and has a hole for the alt bolt. You find it on NPD part number #10a336-15

Here's what one looks like,

Ron, is that factory? I can't recall ever seeing that before (can't say I've stared at many alternator mounting points though either) if its not factory I'm wondering if its because the heads on the car are '77 heads. The deckheight, since its being a 351, would that throw everything off kilter as well?

I'm looking for my NPD catalog trying to find it on Mustangs Unlimited's website but can't find it either.

Thanks again picture was awesome too!

Luke

Luke, it was a stock part they looked alittle different. Try the NPD website it's under the 65-73 mustangs and then click on engine section. You can find them at the junk yards too.

The bolt holes in the head would be the same, but since its a 351W block the heads are moved out just a touch, requiring the bracket to move the threaded hole back closer to center.

You can also get or make a 351w alt bracket from the water pump. I took two stock 289 brackets. Cut one off right pass the bolt holes to the water pump.Welded the cut off end to the end of the other stock bracket making it just alittle longer. It lines right up with hole in the head. I've used it that way for 6 years now.

Thanks ya'll! I can't believe something this simple kept me from getting this done today.

The guy that worked on the car before me, I tell you what, what a shadetree mechanic he is. He broke a bolt off in the block. He split the timing cover prying it off, then put it back in with the crack in it. He cracked the 70's bracket that bolts to the head by bottoming out the bolt into the block. Half the timing cover bolts were stripped out anyway so.. kinda happy getting all this out of the way.

Do appreciate all your help.
Thanks Again,
Luke
