I got a problem. I bought a timing cover off of a nice guy here on the forum. I can not remember who it was. Anyway, I assumed that a water pump from a 73 302 would fit it. So I went and got a '73 water pump. Guess what??? It does not fit. Duh. I guess I should have asked what year timing cover it was to make sure I could get the right parts. Right? Well I am still learning and a little embarrassed right now.The timing cover fits my 302 no problem. It has ford marked on it and has the following on it: C90E 6059A Does anyone know what year water pump will fit it? Or where I can find out? Thanks embarrassed Richard. ------------------ rmousir '66 Mustang Ford Blue & white stripes 302 auto Mustang ~ 04-05

The timing cover is the same between 69 and 73, the 73 water pump should have bolted right up. Why would it not fit?------------------ Ronnie 69 mach1 351W-4V engineless at the time! 70 Torino GT 351C-4v with a "shaker" Mustangs and More Member #23

I checked the catalogs - 69 & down takes a different pump than 70 & up. Don't remember why.

Because the water pump outlet was moved to the opposite side in 70,along with a handfull of other changes..3 to 4 bolt balancer and pulleys, new timing marks etc etc...It all changed on the front.. As they sit at there computors saying to them selves.."Oh crap...now i remember" ------------------ 68 Fastback 427MR 4 spd.Deluxe interior,8000 tach,140 speedo,am/fm,tilt.

it is to big and has to many bolt holes (the 73 pump). I have a extra set of water pump seals that came with my seal kit. I got the right seal and I will go back to the zone and make sure the seal fits the pump. Then I should be in business.Man, this project is snowballing just a little but I have come to far to turn back now. Thanks a lot guys. Like I said I felt a little dumb. Richard.

HMMM.. I thought ANY 289/302/351W water pump would physically bolt to ANY 289/302/351W timing cover. Is this not true?I know about the outlet changing sides and have told a few people who did an engine swap about that when the radiator outlet was now on the wrong side. Could rmousir's wrong pump be for a 351C? Tracy

I'm running a 69 front cover on the 5.0 based stroker in the Fastback; and installed a 70-up type water pump to accomodate a crossflow radiator. Everything fits just fine; and with a couple of bushings I even used the early (65-69)alternator brackets. ------------------ Bernie Frank 66 Fastback restomod (12.8 @ 112mph) 85 GT (preserved) 2000 SVT CONTOUR

well today I took back the '73 pump and got a '69 pump. The seals are the same and it looks like it will fit. Now the pump comes with that cover on the back to cover the pump internals. It is bolted on the back with two bolts that go into to holes on the pump that are threaded. Now those two holes do not line up with anything on the timing cover. Is that normal? I have sized it up and it should fit. Just want to make sure that those two little holes are just for that cover on the back and are not needed for installation.

Back in my poor USAF days, I swapped an early 302 in place of a broken 289. The 289 water pump (the 302 didn't have a water pump or intake manifold) shape was the same, but the bolt holes didn't match up. I had to tap some new holes and threads in the 302 block.------------------ reliving youth

Good news!!I got everything on and it looks pretty good. I had to pick up a couple of new bolts and I am still short two bolts but i will get them this week. The news is my old motor is a '73 and has the heater hose on the drivers side. With this being the case and everyone knowing that this does not mate up very well to my rad I have had to use one of the funky hoses along the bottom. Well... The '69 pump has the hose outlet on the pass side and now it should line up with my rad no problem. It is working out great. I still wonder if it would not have been easier to have kept the '95 motor the way it was and dropped it instead of swapping to the v-belt. Don't worry. I have kept all of the serp stuff.
Thanks everyone.
