Hey all.

I am getting a '95 motor ready to go into a '66 coupe. I have a '69 timing cover and a '69 water pump and a '95 balancer (4 bolt). My pullies are from the '73 that is in the car. They don't line up.

How can I solve this problem on a budget??

I saw the $220 kits from March but I don't want to go that route.

Ideas??

I do think I need a crank pullie and water pump pullie from a '69. Would that bolt on with the '95 balancer?

What about a spacer? I think a 2" might do it.

Let me know.

Thanks.

Richard.

try finding all the same pulley year. check out ebay i see pulleys on there all the time for old cars and cheap too. a nice pulley set would look nice too. junk yard.
isnt the 95 pulley a serpintine belt? and the others are V belts? this is important you dont want belts flying off. spacers could work to like using washers or something. whats the difference in them beign off? can you throw something small behind the pulleys?

How many pulleys are we talking about and do any of them line up? There are spacers you can use behind the water pump pulley to help move it in line.

Well....

Long story shot I think I am off about 2" but....

I first thought I could use the serp '95 pullies. Thought it would look cool but they don't line up. At least the water pump and the crank ones don't. I need to move the crank pullie out about two inches. The waterpump pullie's bolt patter doesn't fit the water pump,so that killed that idea. I thought about redrilling the bolt holes though. Just a thought.

Then I pulled the pullies off of my '73 motor. The bolt holes are good but the crank pullie will hit the water pump pullie. The two pullies may be to big around. Strange thing.

Does any have a '69 that would be willing to measuer the sizes of their pullies for me? That may help.

I forgot about evil bay. I will look at them later tonight and see what I can find.

Spacers are what I am thinking may work. But then I still have the 'to big problem' The alt should be find when I get there. For now if I can line up the water pump and the crank I will be happy. I will pull the alt out and make sure it lines up as well though.

Thoughts???

If you want to use the serpentine belt you need to use the late model front cover. You have to remember that the 302 went from a 3 bolt crank pulley to a 4 bolt crank pulley from 69 to 70. You need 69 pulleys to make everything match up. It's probably a problem with the 95 balancer as well. FRPP offers a balancer for late model engines that will work with early model pulleys. That's probably where you need to start. I'm about to put double groove pulleys on my 69 in order to add power steering. I'll have matching 69 crank and wp pulleys available hopefully by the end of next week.

I have another thougt on this. If I take the '95 pullies….

If I pull the alt (from the '73 motor) and mount it on my new motor. Then make sure that the alt pulley and the water pump pulley line up. If they do can I redrill the bolt holes in the wp pulley and mount it? Then if those two line up I was thinking I could make a spacer from some pipe for the crank pulley. Bolt it up and I think I will be good. Serp belt set up on a '95 motor with a carb set up in a '66 coupe.

Thoughts??

I know I need to be careful with the drilling on the wp pulley. Got to make sure it is center. Pipe I can get cut square from my brother-in-law. Just need to see if the alt lines up. No sense moving forward if it doesn't.

I think that could work.

Am I crazy or creative?

Just a few thoughts. Are you using a 69 or 95 water pump? Keep in mind that the 69 is standard rotation (v-belt) and the 95 is a reverse rotation for serpentine belt setup. Also, the 95 waterpump pulley probably doesn't have any ribs on it so you may have problems keeping the belt on if you use it without some type of idler arm to keep tension on the belt.

I wouldn't mix and match pullies from two different motors due to diameter differences. Are you wanting the serpentine or v belt setup? Another thought is power steering, which i'm not sure you have. You'd have to change the pump to a later style in order to keep it serpentine. Newer pump pulleys have a different size shaft, so you can just take the pulley off of a 95 powersteering pump and press it onto a 69 pump.

As stated above, in 69 the crank pulley had 3 bolts and 70-later had 4 bolts. IIRC, the nose on the 95 or so waterpumps were not as long so a shallower crank pulley could be used. I bought a Professional Products dampener and had to buy the spacers for it to work. They had multiple thicknesses of spacers so that may be an option @ $80 or so. Really need more info from my above questions to figure out where to go next.

69 Sportsroof I have sent you a email from work. I am interested in buying your pulleys if you are willing to sell them Please let me know and we can work out the details.

Thanks very much.
