I don't know what this all means, but I thought our cars were supposed to be pollution machines, at least in California.
Fact is, for the last two years, since emissions testing became mandatory in practice (as opposed to the theory, which involved a quick bribe), my 68 with a 302 4V, Autolite 4100, has far exceeded the requirements for post 2003 cars at low idle, let alone the lower standards for pre-2003 and pre-1997 cars. How does this all compare with California and other states? Do I have a super clean car?
Post-2003 car CO emission requirement: 3.5%. My car: 1.02%. Acceptable limit on a pre-1997 car: 4.5%.
Post-2003 car hydrocarbon emission requirement 600 ppm. My car: 74 ppm. Acceptable limit on a pre-1997 car: 800 ppm.

Maybe you air going into the carb is cleaner than ours, you know, smog in, smog out.

I remember when the first catalytic convertors and smog pumps were being installed, a magazine compared a mild built up Chebbie motor to a stock motor. The warmed over motor actually burned cleaner than the factory one with all the smog crap on it.

Those are really high allowable amounts According to my smog test results on my '95 that I did this past summer, for CO the max allowed at 15 MPH is .49%, at 25 MPH .46%. For Hydrocarbons (HC) the max allowed at 15 MPH is 84 PPM and at 25 MPH 49 PPM. That are the numbers for a '95 GT.
My car passed waaay below these allowable amounts, these are simply the upper limits of what would be allowed on a car for it to pass.
