On a '65, are the front valance bolts supposed to be body color or black? I've seen both.

Sorry nobody answered you. My '70 has them too, and I'm painting them body color, because black looks unfinished to me on an exterior bolt.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 XL

No problem. I appreciate you going back and responding. The car will be white, so I'll probably end up painting the bolts too. Thanks again.[This message has been edited by gmliebau (edited 02-24-2006).]

That sounds smart to me, otherwise from a distance they'll look like holes. It really stands out on light colored cars.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 XL

To be correct they would be natural as the valance in the front isn't painted on the car. On some years, believe they were painted with the rear valance on. At least my 68 was......at the shop

I don't know if you are looking for correct or just something that looks good. I used 18-8 Stainless Button Head bolts on my 65. I ordered mine from McMaster-Carr and they were here the next day. It gives it a nice clean look plus it won't corrode or rust.Ernie ------------------ Red Fire Clearcoat 65 Fastback, 408W. Thanks for the responses guys. Stainless or Zinc plated bolts may be an option too...a little custom.

Don't get zinc plated if you want to leave them bare, pay the extra pennies for the stainless.Buttonhead bolts like Ernie mentioned are beautiful. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 XL

I did, we're painting it the original code 6 medium blue metallic {aka Acapulco Blue} but when he got his favorite paint and compared it to some original paint still left on the car it was vastly different. He got a quart of the same code from a different manufacturer and it was different from both of them. A third company mixed a different color still! So he wants me to come and pick the one I like. Two of the paints are the same tint, but the metallic flakes are different sizes. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 XL

If you need to match it, it sure does. I've heard of this problem before with this color.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 XL

Funny you should mention this. A friend here, has a Acapulco Blue 67 GT350 Shelby. Paint shop had problems. He ended up going to a PPG dealer here and getting it mixed in their top grade. They had buffed up some original paint on inside of car (rust-free like yours) and got the correct shade. What you say about right color, different metallic is true. Some metallics have shinier particles, and some are coarser, etc. If a 2nd shop, at a later date, had to do a panel repair on a car like that, they'd have a nightmare on their hands. These are the things that make car painting a hassle!FYI..The PPG was a dead on match. [This message has been edited by mellowyellow (edited 03-03-2006).]
