I've got a body water leak in the front of the passenger compartment. It's not around the windshield, and is creating a LOT of problems. Any suggestions.

Welcome to Mustangsandmore.com rstrahan. Check out all the Forum's and have fun.

For the problem of the water leak, more than likely it is your Cowl that is leaking. The vented grate area just forward of your windshield is notourious for rotting out and causing water leaks. To find out for sure, you can pour about a gallon of water into the cowl and then watch under the dashboard to see where it is leaking. There are three different fixes for this problem. The cheapest is to buy a cowl cover from a Mustang Parts supplier, like National Parts Depot (NPD). Put the cover on and it will reduce the amount of water getting in. Next, is to put in "Top Hats". These plastic pieces go up the vents on both ends of the dash from underneath. They are also available from Mustang Parts suppliers. The last option is to cut the 130 plus spot welds and remove the cowl and then patch in new sheet metal. Not an easy or cheap task.

My wife was raised in Denton and still has some family in the area. Small world isn't it??

I had the same thing happen to me found a couple problems. Some one had taken the windshield bottom support barkets out witch left the screw holes wide open. Also when I took out my windshield at the bottom where you could see was hole big enought to throw a cat thru.

I had a leak on my '65 fastback. I knew the cowls were fine. I pulled the windshield out to start my restoration, and found one of the window clips was missing. Water was getting in that hole and found it's way inside.

My leak was between the windshield rubber seal and the body at the top of the windshield. Many older Ford models had this problem. I used black silicone adhesive and a toothpick to carefully flow it into the crack without making too much of a mess.
