Ok, ill start from the beginning.Last year i put some guage overlays on. I didnt center the guages, so as soon as i gave the cluster power, it fired the IVR. I barely replaced it last week. The fuel gauge will work outside the dash, i screw in the cluster and it drops to empty, i pull it out, it reads again. Im getting 34 OHMs, with about 1/4 tank. I replaced the IVR again, because the first one, the tabs pulled off, the new one is doing the same. What am i missing here??? Im about ready to just remove the whole cluster!!!!!I have pulled the cluster out at least 20 times in the past 2 weeks.HELP HELP HELP

how do i do that(build one)?????Is there a grund on the IVR???I thought it was 12V in and out and its grounded through the cluster housing. As soon as i screw the cluster it, it kills the gauge, pull it away and its fine.

i thought there was a ground wire that mounted on the back of the cluster somewhere. Im trying to remember since it has been so long. the outer part of the cluster is plastic not metel check for a bare wire behind the cluster that could be touching the gauge backing the IVR has to be grounded the casing I believe is used as the ground when you screw it in.One of the mustang parts suppliers offers a solid state IVR now mustangsplus or mustangsunlimited maybe ------------------ 88 thunderbird TC 2.3L Gillis at 18 psi, walbro 255 lph fuel pump, Kirban at 39 psi, 3.73 8.8" rear, rebuilt head, brand new IHI, working on a T3 and FMIC 66 mustang V8 swap baby 68 Fairlane 289 w/ auto rusting away motor is going in the mustang

Sounds like your shorting the circuit when you install the cluster. I bet your working on a 69 or later car right ? With its fancy printed circuit board, though im not very familiar with these, i would inspect the entire board for cracks and what not and when you install it again try not to tighten it up too much. Are you missing any spacers or isolators or something that might cause this? Like i said im not very familiar with these later clusters so im kinda guessing, hopefully it leads you somewhere... For a 65-66, the NPD part # for the electronic IVR is 10804-1e. I just ordered one...[This message has been edited by tteazis (edited 03-03-2006).]
