Drain the coolant, cut the heater hoses, then go under the dash and disconnect the cables that go to the heater box. There is one screw that is up behind the glove box. Remove it and it should pull right out. This is the 'high level' instructions but should get you through it.

Whoops, forgot to mention that the heater core is inside the heater box and once you get the box out, you'll see that it is split into two pieces. Remove the clips that tie the two pieces together and split apart the box. You'll see the heater core then.

well I managed to *#*# that up! The piece wouldnt come apart so it broke. It was pretty crusty in there! Now I need a whole new box assembly. What do I do to take this out, Do I have to disconnect the blower from the engine firewall?

There are 4 nuts that need to be removed from the engine compartment side of the firewall for the heater box to be able to drop out.

Will mine fit your car??? I'd take it out and send it to ya for the price of shipping if you want it. Mine has been un-hooked from water for at least 2 years now, and it worked before it was, so let me know.

How did you bypass your heater? A short loop of hose?
I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my 65 FB since the blower motor doesn't work and I don't drive it in cold weather anyway.
I might eventually pull the whole heater assembly & do a heater delete for the controls & firewall hole.

That's what I do. Screw the heater. Have a 68 heater and also complete AC system, but am going with an underdash AC unit.

I thought about under dash AC for my GT350H clone. It would be nice in a black car in the summer time...
Most likely after a painless wiring harness, after a crate motor, C-4 rebuild & new rear end among other little things.

Bannister,
I may have the heater assembly for sale when I finally get around to yanking it out.

Exactly. I just used one of the hoses I cut, and left it around 18/24"'s long, and it worked fine. I have to re-tape the fitting that goes in the intake, I noticed it was leaking a little.

What about the rubber caps that are sold in the "HELP" racks to cap off manifold and heater.

I just left enough to splice back into from the firewall. The loop goes from intake to water pump.
