Should I go with flat black or gloss black? What kind of paint have you guys used? I am having to redo mine because the ford paint decided to start cracking from where I painted it a couple of years back.------------------ 65 fastback. 302, Paxton Supercharger 7PSI, Edelbrock heads and intake, comp cam, Motorsport rockers, flowtechs with cutouts, x pipe and 2.5in flowmasters. I've seen some early, very shiny dashes, and I don't know if they're original, but 67s and up I go with semi-gloss or satin. It's not the only way to go, but I use lacquer on interiors.

I used Rustoleum Premium Satin. Satin matches the original look the best. Flat is going to be tough to clean, and gloss reflects quite a bit of light. The Premium Satin an Enamel, comes in lots of different colors - black included. I tried several different brands/types/finishes. This came out the best. IMHO, Rustoleum spray bombs have the best spray nozzles for consistent coverage. I used thier primer/filler and the primer over that. Then the finish color. Even with the dash, the prep is what makes it. I took it all the way down to metal, sanded, primer/filler coats and sandings in between, then primer, another sand, then color. Looks great, if I do say so myself!

I am using POR-15 on the dash first, and I had a small dent in the drivers side that I had to fix with some bondo. I am doing the floors and all underneath with the POR-15. I will try the Semi and see how I like it. I guess I could shoot clear over it before it dries if I don't like it.------------------ 65 fastback. 302, Paxton Supercharger 7PSI, Edelbrock heads and intake, comp cam, Motorsport rockers, flowtechs with cutouts, x pipe and 2.5in flowmasters. Wow. You don't think POR-15 is serious overkill for a dash? Just my opinion, but I think your dash will last until the next millennium that way.

Well I was going to use the POR Chassis Black over top of the POR, but it didnt look quite right so I sanded it and now I have an indestructable coat of primer.

Dashes are painted semi-gloss to reduce sun glare. Cars with glossy dashes are virtually undrivable on bright sunny days.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 XL

Some cars are actually charcoal black. 68s have charcoal dashes (the metal parts) and doors.The 69SCJ had a charcoal steering column.Cory ------------------ 68 Fastback 427MR 4 spd.Deluxe interior,8000 tach,140 speedo,am/fm,tilt.

By 66, the gov was getting into safety(with spear steering columns?) Dashes seemed to be duller than the metal on the doors. 66 was when they started to have dull wiper arms.
