It's been a long time coming, but my 64.5 Indy pace car goes to the painter today.
Mike's been doing body work for the past two months. Actually the stripped shell has been hanging on a rotisserie since Spring 2002. He spent yesterday doing some lead work which is a new skill for him.
Now while the body is at the paint shop, he'll be busy detailing all the other little components. Guess I'll be getting grit under my nails cleaning nuts and bolts too.
Lots of odds and ends NOS 64.5 parts to round up too. I'm making a list and will post it in the near future.
Our first concours restoration. Much different approach than previous projects.
Planning to have it ready for the MCA show in Las Vegas in September.

Way Joyce! Seams like yesterday that you got the Pace Car. That was a great find on E-bay. Can't wait to see it done. Get in touch with Lark Bragg if you need more info/details for the concours restoration details. I also have some books with proper paint marks if you need any of that info! Looking forward to seeing her done.

So did you get to the painter? Do you understand that painter time is different? My car went to the painter in June for 2 weeks; it was returned in December!

Hi Don,
It probably won't be back to us until June. It's up north in Hooper. Mike has to go to the shop after it's painted and put the suspension on it there. We had it strapped on a dolly/cart to the trailer for transport up there, but can't return it the same way without messing up the new paint. So it has to have the wheels back on to come home.
The painter is putting it back on the rotisserie in his shop.
He's from our club who has done several other cars we know, including a gorgeous black 69 Mach, and he is meticulous. Anyone who can handle black has our faith. The other guy that painted KRISIS and Mikal's convertible was hurt last fall in a motorcycle accident and isn't quite up to doing our car now.
I'll let you know when it's close to coming home.

Joyce,

Did you guys get a new pick-me-up-truck? When I was in Salt Lake city and visited you guys you gave me that wonderful tour of the city, but I distinctly remember riding in a big-ol Dodge truck.

It looks like your "Pace car" is being towed by a Ford, which is good because it will keep it calm while it goes to the doctor for it`s face lift .

I can hardly wait to See it when it is done, if your other stangs are any indication this "Pace car" will be a real show piece.

Nah, we still have and love the Dodge Rambo. It's been a great Pony Puller, hauled many ponies from all over the country (Texas, Arizona, California, Wyoming, Ohio, Virginia). We have discussed purchasing a new Ford truck, but that would take away from the stang funds. Our Dodge thinks its a Ford (FORDGE)anyway.

The Ford pulling the INDY belongs to the painter. It was actually a t-boned truck he bought and fixed up himself. Does a great job. He's presently also working on a rear ended 2005 Mustang for his wife.

Dave - are those the Osborne Books? We bought a full set of 64.5's. Helpful stuff there.

Joyce,
Nope, to the Osborn manuals. This is a detailing book that was done back in the late '70s or early '80s. Very detailed with great info. I will give you the title when I get home.
