OK, Novice here so don't laugh yoo loud...

Had a problem today after I open the drivers door on my '68 conv.

Latch would not close....

Got latch closed, but... door is open and I can't figure out how to get it to open again.

And no its not locked (LOL)...

I have to door panel off and the shop manual doesn't really have much to go on...

Any ideas from someone who's been there and done that ???

T

OK, so when you say "got latch closed" I assume you mean that you got the machanism to close and hold like it would if the door was closed. If that's the case "open" the door using either the inside or outside handle but hold the handle you are using in the open position. Then take a screwdriver and pry the 2 prongs open. You can use your finger if you like but they can be sticky.

I think to fix the problem, you need to clean the mechanism. The best way is to remove it and do it right but it's a PIA to get it out and back in. Usually just grease and dirt buildup. Could be a broken spring too I guess.

Good luck,

Gregg

If I understand you correctly, I think the latch spring has broken and needs replaced. I've had this happen on both my 67 and my 68.

That spring is part 21813-2K, $5.95 from NPD.
