The previous owner installed a petronix ignator on the original distributor (289 engine) about one year ago. After reading several post that this unit can fail anytime I like to be prepare for it and I will like to carry a set of points and condenser. I will appreciate if any of you can post a picture of a distributor (or can direct me to a site ) showing the original place to the points and condenser and the connection to the coil, thank you

Welcome to M&M 289FB. The points and condenser bolt in where the Pertronix is bolted. You run the wires just like the Per unit, and the 2 wires go to the 2 sides of the coil. 1 wire is white and 1 is black. Not too sure which color goes to which side, but someone else will chime in and figure that out for us. You also have to gap the points for the car to run right. I've had a Pertronix unit for over 2 years without 1 single problem, and will buy the II when this one fails, if it ever does. Hope this helps some.------------------ William The easiest way to find something lost, is to buy a replacement. 68 Coupe 289 C4 2:79 rear gears

You should currently have 3 wires going to the coil terminals, plus the fat wire coming out the top. On the coil terminal marked either (+) or BATT you currently should have a red wire from your Pertronics and a red with blue stripe wire from the firewall. After you install your points you will only have the red/blue wire from the firewall. You will also currently have a black wire from the Pertronics to the other terminal on the coil marked either (-) or DIST. This terminal will have a single wire, usually black, coming from the points in the distributor. Inside the distributor there will be a wire from the condensor to the points, and then a single wire from the points out to the coil. That's all. You will be going from 3 wires down to 2.

Then there is the "pink" resistor wire issue. I've heard of the petronix wired with and without the resistor wire. If the installer went without resistor wire, it would need to be replaced when converting back to points. The pertronix instructions call for 12V to the unit. http://www.pertronix.com/downloads/ignitor12vneg.pdf
