Just back from the body shop. Final fitting underway, almost ready to paint. I have new 1/4 panel emblems, both the base and the chrome parts. We are trying to figure out exactly where these line up. Does anyone have a picture or article on exactly where these things go?

Thanks

Gregg

You're talking rear quarter panels, right? The crescent-shaped emblems behind the door? What happened to the three original mounting holes? Did someone fill them in?

Well 68coupe, I respect your decision not to put them on, but I'm pretty old school. I like the emblems, and want them on. Besides, how can you be a real sleeper without that nice, tame, stock coupe look???

The mags have covered just about everything in the last 40 years, but I doubt they'd do THAT one. Since it's a pain to ask anyone to remove their emblems, my advice would be to find a car with the emblems on and break out the tape measure.

I don't know of any emblems on rear 1/4's on 68. Only thing is the side marker reflectors and there are two kinds. I have the later flush mount on this car. If this is what you need: First of all, trace your reflector on a piece of manila folder after making holes in the folder for the attaching tabs. When you get it flush to surface, then trace it. Cut that out and use it as a template.

My car measures from rear edge where bumper inset starts forward 1". On your template, measure at the point where it starts downward at an angle and measure straight up to top character line on 1/4,
11". Straight up will put about where the 1/4 panel extension starts. Put a piece of tape on to hold it. Move your template if nec to get the forward vertical measure of 11 5/8" and tape on. Step bac and view to make sure it's straight/level before drilling holes.

I use a narrow steel tape measure. A puke green colored Stanley type will work. Put the very edge of tape tab agains the template and measure up. Must be a steel tape!

When I first bought this car the reflectors were off of car and they also had black rubber gasket that had a Ford # on them. They are the only ones I recall seeing with a car but some said they were Cougar. The ones I had were old and age cracked. Found rpelacements at Mustangs Unlimited, in Ga. NPD does not list them with the reflectors.

Hey Yellow,

Thanks for your detailed post. I have decided not to put the markers on the 1/4's - I just like the clean look better. What this post is about is the unique (for each year) quarter panel emblem that goes just behind the door. NPD calls these Quarter Nameplates (part number 290A76-03A for a 68).

Regards,

Gregg

Are you sure that's legal? Even here in the Philippines (where no one gives a damn for the law), they could bust you for that in theory. They were originally installed, and the reason many cars don't carry them nowadays is 'cos the tail lights are wrap-around affairs.

Hey Gregg, if you out this way you can look at mine. I also have old parts of the quarters taken off you can use for reference.
Mike.

Just looked them up. Thought about them but didn't figure them to be an emblem. Pricey lil' muthahs! Glad mine are still good. Dayam!

Gregg,

If I get a chance tomorrow I'll shoot you a digital of mine. The chrome pieces are gone but the bases are still on the quarters. I'll try to take some measurements too.

BTW, how do I post pix with messages here?

Bill

Bill,

Thanks. If you look below the posting area there is a link (yellow text) that says "posting pictures". It explains itself.

To all that posted - thanks. We have the emblems laid out and are happy with them now. Painting this week - assembly starts on the weekend I hope!

Oh, all the way down at the very bottom...duh.

So, you no longer need the measurements or pix. Correct?
