Bet you can all relate... After getting new upholstery, intake and exhaust, new convert top last year I thought we were DONE with our 68 vert, KRISIS.LOL - HAHAHAHAHAHA! Jokes on me! Kind of my fault though. For Christmas I bought Mike, for the car, a 140mph speedo and 8K tach. After resolving a few problems with the supposedly professionally rebuilt speedo the guages are working. But while installing them he upgraded the clock to quartz and added LED lights to the gauge cluster. Oh, so pretty now! BUT, not done... Talking about the sloppy handling to some friends leads to delivery of complete suspension and negative wedge kit. Today there's a lot of horse $hit flying in the garage as the car comes apart for the new parts installation. Good thing he decided to check out the suspension. Lots of ugliness there. Getting ready for the trip to Restomods in Reno at the end of May.

I really like the GT 351 KR sticker! That should be a really good repellant for all the "is it real?" crowd! About that clock conversion ... Do you know exactly what that involved? A few months back, I took two of these clocks to my local watchsmith and asked him to convert them, and finally I said forget it. He said if I wanted it to run off the car's battery, I had to get an old 12V mechanism from a car back from the days before digital. Or if I wanted it like a regular battery-powered clock, I'd need to replace the rear housing. So he went hunting for several days for a new donor, while my electrician and I figured out where to mount the clock battery, since it's not very practical to change a clock battery that's located behind the dash. Anyhoo, the watchsmith couldn't find a donor the right size, so we shelved the project. What was your experience with all this? Are you 12V or regular clock conversion? Any idea what parts were used? Thanks! Simon

Simon, the quartz conversion kit was $84 from Mustangs, Etc. in Van Nuys, CA. 818-787-7634. Mike did it himself and it works off the car battery. (He's in the garage cussing at the suspension project right now. When he comes in I'll have him read your question and add anymore details.)Ron, about the Speedo. When we bought the car it had a 200 Kilometer speedometer from a Cougar. At shows kids and even some adults would ask if the car would really go 200? Mike told them YUP, but didn't bother to tell them it was KMs. Kind of funny. I'll have to post a picture of the new LED lights in the dash. VERY bright! Slight bluish tint. Quartz clock conversions are available thru Instrument Services in Roscoe, Illinois. I've done a few of them and found them to be pretty simple if you take your time and follow instructions. They even have a video if you want.

You put led on your instrument light, is there a big difference? Can you just replace the bulbs with led without any modifications? Will the dimming switch of the inst light also work on led?

The LED bulbs just plug right into the original outlets on the gauge cluster. No other conversion needed. The LEDs run on much lower energy so the dimmer doesn't work. But the tradeoff is worth it. The car is disabled right now or I'd take pictures of the lights.J.

I agree with Hipo. I put blue ones in last year. Just a bulb swap, nothing else, sooooooooo easy. I love the blue as opposed to the stock green. Highly recommend it. You can't dim, but it's not very bright, just a nice midrange. Lot's of colors too.Gregg
