I am thinking of building a 351...well thats all that I will admit to..hehe.

With the carb enclosure I have about 1 inch of hood clearance at the tightest spot. I know that a 351 is taller, but just how much higher would the carb flange be?

I am assuming that it will not fit under a stock hood.
Would I be ok with a shelby hood?

I am trying to figure out my options.
Thanks

I run a stroked 351W in my 65 Fastback.

I am using a Stealth manifold, and it clears a stock hood, even with the cobra oval air cleaner. I could get a bit more clearance if I ran the drop base air cleaner.

I would prefer to run a Vic-Jr manifold, but it will not clear a stock hood.

I also have a fiberglass GT350 style hood, the type with minimal bracing and I am pretty sure it would work with the Vic-Jr manifold. Most GT350 hoods that have either the steel or fiberglass supports that mimic the factory hood will not have enough clearance for the Vic-Jr.

FYI
Type Height
torkerII 4.2
Stealth 4.7
Perf RPM 4.8
Air gap 5.8
Vic. Jr 6.8 ??? I think

Does anybody have the carb or intake off of their 351W that could measure the distance up to their hood?
That would help a lot.

I think the torkerII is very close in height to a stock manifold

How much higher is the carb flange on a 351 than a 302?
