Hey Guy's

I just bought a 66 fastback that has had some upgrade already, The car was originaly a 6 cylinder that has been converted over to a 302 w/T5 trans disc brakes up front and a 9" rearend.

The problem is the width of the rearend is way to wide with the tires sticking out about 3" outside of the fenders and jacked up like a 4 wheel drive, so i'm going to have the housing cut down but i don't know what the correct lenght should be.

Do any of you guy's know what length i should cut the housing down too? Another ? is could i cut the rear even more to get more tire under the rear?

thanks
kelly

Are you sure the problem is not the wheels on the car? The incorrect offset of the wheel would push the tire outside of the wheel opening.

Thanks for the Info,

The more research i do the more i think it has an 8" rear but i'm not sure,

I measured the rearend from axle flange to axle flange and it measures "59.25 and the backspace on the ss cragars are 4.25 so i don't think the offset is off enough to make the tires hang out that much, the tires look like they have about 4" of room on the inside of the tire before they will hit the leaf springs.

Looks like i'm going to need a new rearend, does anyone have one for sale? Or should i just order 1 from currie or ebay?

The brake drum also measures 10" inside to inside.

thanks guy's for the help

The quick way you can tell if you have an 8" or 9" is to try to put a socket on the lower two nuts of the carrier. If the socket goes on without a problem, its an 8". If the socket won't go on because the angle is too great because the pinion 'bulk' is in the way, it's a 9".

I found the ID tag on rearend and looked codes up and this is what i have.

WCZ-V1
2.79 7EA 930
8"

Well i found what i think is a 9" for my 66 fastback, I looked up the codes off this ID tag but have run into a wall, The axle appear to be 31 spline, here are the #'s

WDC-BT (I found -EE & -EK but no -BT)
3.00 gear 6BD 111

From what i can find it's a 66 rearend

I found WDC-EE 9" codes but no WDC-BT anywhere.

Do any of you guy's know these codes or any ideas?

I don't know what the rearend came out of but it does have trailing arms and pads for coil springs and measures 56" from inside to inside axle flange, I know it will need to be cut down to 52" but it does have the big bearing ends and 3/4" studs holding backing plates on.

Any help will be appreciated, Thanks Guy's

Kelly

4.25 if they are 8 inch wheels isn't enough backspacing even with the stock width rear.

Rather than take on the expense of a different size rear AND then also wheels, I would just order up some custom offset wheels to work with the rear I had a matching pair for the front.

Should be cheaper in the long run and alo give the car a unique stance/look
