Just got my ready to run distributor, and it has 3 wires. Looking at the instructions, it says the brown goes to the neg side of the coil, the black is the engine ground, and the red is a switched 12v source. The first 1, I got NO problem with. The second is iffy, but the 3rd is confusing. It says to connect it to a source that has power when the key is in the on and start position, but not in the ACC. Where can I ground it best, and where is the best place to power it up at also??? It say to go before the pink wire, so I just splice into it, and connect it to the red wire??? Sorry, new dist and I don't want to fry it. ------------------ William The easiest way to find something lost, is to buy a replacement. 68 Coupe 289 C4 2:79 rear gears

Red wire to "I" side of the solenoid. That has 12 volts. Pink wire is a resistance wire. Remember, your car used to have points. Check it with a volt meter, but it should only have 8 volts. Ground to shock tower or head, or block. Don't forget to set up your advance curve and eliminate the vacuum canister.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Which is the #1 post on this cap Alex, I can't find the # on/in it no where??? I had the car started briefly, but I had to spin it all the way around to the t-stat house just to get it to idle. Had the bright idea to restab it in another position, and now it won't start. If something went right the first time on this car, I'd be scared to death

If I could butt in. You'll need to find TDC (top dead center) on the #1 hole on the compression stroke. The point where the rotor is pointing to will be the #1 post, rerout your firing order from that post. Hope this helps and I'm not off base. Thanks Darryl, I didn't mean this was just between me and Alex, it's just I got the part from him, and he had a standing offer for any questions I might have. You can jump in my threads ANY time you have an answer. Thanks for the GREAT idea, I should have thought of it, but I'm just a little scrambled right now. Thanks again.

Here I go again with an alternative response to a technical question. First off, I'm probably wrong but... While wiring the Fastback, I studied the diagrams, particularly the solenoid and its function. To the best of my aged brain (63 yrs), I figured the "I" post supplies a full 12V to the ignition system only while the engine is cranking (solenoid engaged). After the solenoid is disengaged (key in run position), the full 12V is disconected by the solenoid resulting in the "I" post reflecting only the reduced voltage (~8 or 9) supplied through the resistance wire (ignition switch). Of course, this applies to the stock 66 wiring and may be different for later/modified Mustangs.
