Do you have the serpentine belt? If so, I believe it needs the reverse rotation water pump.

Why do you think it is the pump? More details will probably help get to the bottom of your problem.

Does it overheat right away? Only at idle at lights? Freeway driving?

Have you made any changes to the engine recently like heads?

If I understand you correctly you are using the efi motor with a carb set up. If so have you swapped the timing cover and water pump over to the old style v-belt with a normal direction water pump. If you are still using the water pump that came with the motor then it is a reverse direction water pump. I guess I am saying make sure the water pump is turning in the correct direction.

Dont forget to check the easy stuff too. Make sure your radiator cap can hold up to the right amount of pressure. If it wears out, it will not hold pressure and it will let water out resulting in overheating. I had a problem once where the flanges where the cap meets the radiator neck were worn down and the cap wasn't sealing tight enough. I thought I was overheating but it was really just not able to hold up to the pressure.

yes it is an efi changed over to carbed,I have a surpintine belt but a very short 1,
all i have is crank, altt, waterpump and fan ofcorse,(no a/c p/s idlers tensioners),and yes the water pump is forward rotation, not the stock waterpump,no I didn't change the timing cover, and the car runs good on a cool day 85`tops.car only overheats on freeways or highways.

That is good info in that last post of yours. You say it only does this on freeways etc. Does your lower rad hose have the spring in it so it does not collapse under high rpms.

When I went to the zone they tried to tell me that the lower hose does not need it anymore. Good thing I have friends on this forum. That is one thing to check if you haven't already.

Also check your thermostate.

Richard.

I couldn't find the right lower hose so I ended up with one of those ribbed universal lower hoses. It fit perfect and it will never collapse due to the ribs. You could build a house on that thing.

That is what I have on mine also. That is a tough hose for sure. if everything is new (hoses, thermostat, seals, clamps) do you have enough coolent in there? What type of rad do you have?
