First I must say to all who posted on my last post that I was wrong and they were right. The leak is coming from my rear main seal.

I think I took off the first/old one the wrong way and then I don't think I put it on all the way.

I know I got the direction right when I put it on but I don't know that I put it on all the way. What is the right way to put it on? Remember that I have a '95 block and a one piece solid seal. Also is this common to mess up? To add to this mess I think I scratched up the crank taking off the first/old original rear main. How should I deal with that?

Any and all info suggestions and guidence is wanted. I am my biggest problem. LOL.

Richard.

Depending on just how badly the crank is scratched you can do one of two things.First I'd try some emory paper, something around 80 grit, tear off a chunk and use it to polish the area where the scratch is. The second fix would be to install a speedy sleeve.A ring that slips over the entire end of the crank and gives the seal a new suface to ride on. Check with your local parts house they should have them.
To install the seal Ford has a special tool T82L-6701-A. Maybe you can locate one at a parts store or borrow one. It's basically a ring that pushes the seal into position using two of the flywheel bolts. The rear face of the seal must be within .005 of the rear face of the block. _

I am going to clean it up and polish it. Make sure that there are no nicks. Should I use some oil or grease to lube up the seal when I put the new one back one?

Richard.

Definitely put a coat of engine oil on the lip of the seal. A thin coat of R.T.V. sealer on the outer circumference of the seal wouldn't hurt either.
I hope this works out for you, taking things apart more than once for any reason is never any fun.Good luck! Mark

Richard, I used the old seal, reversed, to push the new one in. It may take a bit of persuasion with a soft hammer. Just make sure it doesn't go on "rooster"-eyed (the more common word would be dealt a swift blow by the forum software ), as I think this is one of the main reasons the 1 piece seals leak. Coat the inside with oil, and put a thin coat of RTV on the outer circumference as Mark suggested.

So is it most likely that I put the seal on 'roostered' or off straight just a bit. I will be much more carful this time. I really don't want to pull this motor again. I will also use some fresh oil on the inside and some rtv on the out side. Again, I will be very careful.

I will keep everyone posted.

Richard.

No luck in the Ohio/Kentucky junk yards.
Some have brake parts, but want monumental $$$ for them.

Thanks for the update and thanks very much for checking Alex. I appreciate it greatly. I will continue my search for a break system after I get this fixed. Any advice on this leak that I am working on?

Richard.
