I need some advise and help for a problem that has developed recently in my 67 fastback passenger door. I have just noticed a “dimple” in the door about 6" below the lock cylinder and 2" in front of the rear door edge. It appears something has hit the door sheet metal from the INSIDE, producing a outward dimple on the door. Real bummer!!!!! I thought it might have been caused by a screw or bolt that was too long and was hitting the inside of the door. However, I’ve tracked it down to the latch assembly, where the latch actuating rod is connected. There’s about 1/4 “ room between the inside of the door sheet metal and the connecting point on the latch assembly where the actuating rod is connected to the assembly. It appears that somehow, sometime that hit the inside of the door sheet metal and pushed the metal outward. The problem is I don’t see anyway that could have happened–everything in there is tight, there doesn’t seem to be any way to adjust the latch assembly to allow more room inside the door. The manual shows the r&r for the latch assembly, but doesn’t mention any adjustment.
1) Has anyone run into this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?
2) Does anyone know if these “paintless dent removers” can remove a dimple from the sheet metal? The paint is fine, I really don’t want to repaint the door unless there’s no other option. I’ve had dents removed by them on other cars in the past and they did a great job, but that was “pulling” a dent out, not “pushing” a dimple in.
Thanks,

I had one of those paintless dent places check out my hood once. I had two bumps like you describe around the hinge area. He said he couldn't help, since it was raised off the hood. No suggestions for you unfortunately. Sorry.

The thing with the "paintless repairs" that you have to be very careful with is microscopic cracks in the paint. Now if you have a paint job where no sealer was used or if the sealer gets cracked, you'll end up with a rust blister. My mother-in-law had a repair done and at the time I didn't think they could do it, but they did a fair job. But 9 months later a little blister. Food for thought.
If you try a hammer and dolly put a couple layers of duct tape on the hammer face, try and prevent paint damage. Good luck. Darryl

Scary stuff (hammer on paint). That looks like some pretty nice paint on that car. I don't see why the paintless dent guys couldn't work their magic from the inside if it's accessible. Gmliebau's dents may have been where the hood structure didn't allow access. The good news is it's on the passenger side. Good luck.

Has anyone run into this problem

Yes! And I can only ascribe it to extraterrestrials.
On my right side fender, two mounds about an eighth of an inch high, shaped like volcanoes, suddenly appeared on the top of the right fender, near the windshield.
They weren't paint blisters. Something had attacked the underside of the fender, apparently going vertical at high speed.
Other than an imaginative vandal with a nail gun, I have no explanation!

Dent to the back top of a fender could be a rock picked up by your tire.Dent to the top front of the fender means your backing up waaaay to fast

Well, Gentlemen, time will tell!
Today an independent paintless dent remover guy (highly recommended to me) came out to the house, and in about 30 minutes the dimple was gone--disappeared--invisible! He used a powerful light set at an angle to highlight the dimple and worked the dimple out from both the inside and outside of the doorskin. Even the relections on the door are not distorted! I absolutely cannot find where the dimple was!
Now I just have to wait and see if there are any problems down the road.

Jay67, you still have to find the reason for the dent. Hate to see it reoccur.

gjz3oo75,
Yeah, you're right. Another forum poster suggested that perhaps someone at one of the shows or cruises I was at had accidently(???) tripped and fell against the door. That sounded more likely than any other scenario I could come up with, so I decided to gamble that the dent would not mysteriously re-appear. For sure, it wasn't going to heal itself so I decided to gamble the $50.00 that it's a done deal. We'll see!
Thanks to all for all your responses.
