Hi All!!The 390 is in, MSD hooked up and (drum roll please....nothing!) I am using the MSD 6A, MSD Pro Billet Dist, and MSD Blaster coil. I also installed a new wiring harness, the one for the front of the car (firewall forward). I followed the install directions, the stump came from the red wire (not the heavy red) the MSD directions state, "connects to a switched 12 volt source, such as the ignition key or switch. I originally hooked that wire to the positive side of the coil terminal. When I turn the key in the car, nothing happens, well the windshield wipers come on and all that kinda of stuff but nothing to turn the motor over. I can use a screw driver on the starter sylenoid and the motor will turn over. I am thinking I dont have the "red wire" connected correctly, and maybe it should tie into the new harness, but which wire would I splice into on the harness? Oh, and I do have the orange and the black on the coil hooked up as well. I have checked and doubled checked, what am I doing wrong?????? Thanks everyone!!

If the engine will not turn over(crank)I'd recheck the connections on your new engine harness. There should be a red/blue wire that attaches to the "S" or start terminal on the starter solenoid.A brown wire that attaches to the"I" or ignition terminal on the solenoid and I think a red/green wire that connects to the coil positve. You can connect the small red msd wire to either the coil positive or the "I" terminal on the solenoid. If all the wiring is connected correctly and the engine still won't crank, recheck the connection where the harness plugs into the firewall for poor contact.

The coil is not the place to connect the red wire to. The only wires going to the coil should be the 2 from the MSD box. You can hook this red wire the the wire in the harness that would normally hook to the coil for a awitched 12v source. Since you replaced the wiring harness start with the easy things first for the no start condition, swap the 2 small wires on the solenoid and see what happens. 1 of these wires should have 12v in the atart position, the other sends 12v to the ignition system. Also is this an auto with a NSS? By the way the MSD box sends very high voltage to the coil, above 400v, so the wires to the coil from the MSD box should never be tied into the vehicles electrical system.------------------ Ronnie 69 mach1 351W-4V engineless at the time! 70 Torino GT 351C-4v with a "shaker" Mustangs and More Member #23

Don't beat yourself up too bad. I'm not going to tell you where I had the negative lead from the battery hooked to the first time I tried to start my motor. Let's just say that smoke filled the garage (very quickly) and I had to run out and get a new battery cable and starter silenoid before I could try it again.
