Well, the nightmare that was the paint shop has ended - well at least I got the car back. We do still have a fit issue between the passenger side fender and door. Here are the first pics of the reassembly. The suspension is back in and the brakes are in and plumbed.

Were your doors and fenders a PITA, or pretty easy to hang??? Looks damn good right now, can't wait to see it smoking the tires. ------------------ William The easiest way to find something lost, is to buy a replacement. 68 Coupe 289 C4 3:55's/Trac-Lok

Gregg, BEAUTIFUL CAR, DUDE! However, from looking at your third pic, I'd say that ANY & ALL problems you may be having are a direct result of the bad KARMA that is being produced 24/7 from the blasphemious banner that hangs on the wall in front of your beautiful Stang! If you act ASAP, you may be able appease the Gods with this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/White-Ford-Racing-3x5-Banner-Flag-NEW-5-0-gt-lx_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ56421QQitemZ8067105309QQrdZ1 Good Luck! Yeah Ryan you are correct. The guy doing my work is a pure Mopar guy. And then I had the car painted at a Chrysler dealer body shop! I must make ammends to the Blue Oval gods somehow!

Coop,We insisted that the bodyshop guys rehang the panels, so I don't know. I DO know that the passenger front fender and door will rub when we finally attach the bottom of the fender. See the fender/rockerpanel bolt doesn't line up, so they left it out. That's the issue I need to deal with. When you push it in by hand to where it needs to go the line is too tight. All they needed to do was to grind a bit before paint, but it looks like they really didn't check it. Other than that I am REALLY happy with the paint, the pics don't do it justice.

RE: door gapsSince the quarter panel is fixed in place and doesn't move, you need to align the door to the quarter panel and rocker panel first. If you have a decent gap at the back of the door, then you hang the fender and adjust it. If the fender is too close to the door, it needs to move forward. You might need to move both fenders forward along with the hood so that all the front sheetmetal looks symetrical.

That's what I was always told. Start from the back of the car and work your way forward.

NO! not Viper red. Candy apple exactly as per the PPG code. The fender issue may be solved, but I need a bit of help. There is a bolt that attaches the bottom of the fender to the rocker panel. BUT there is a special nut that fits in the square hole in the rocker. I ordered these nuts from NPD and got them - except they seem a bit small, and there doesn't appear to be a way to get them to stay in on their own. Any suggestions???? Thanks Gregg the bodyshop says they prefitted them and we need that bolt and some spacers and it will all work - uh huh.....

Those are nutclips. Are they putting them on right? I had to show my bodyshop how they went on.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '70 Mustang Convertible - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 XL

That's the problem, I don't know how they work either! Can you try to describe it to me here Steve?

It should be a caged nut, meaning the nut is kind of loose inside a sheet metal cage. The cage has two tabs on it. The tabs go inside the body, so that when the bolt is tightened and pulls out on the nut the tabs will stay locked in place.

Yep. That nut will sit lose inside the 'cage' as it mentioned. Careful with it cause if you forget it is there it will move around and fall out of place. It stays no problem once you have the bolt in it and tightened.Richard.

OH!! The sacrilege of it all!! For Shame!! The banner of Mostly Old Parts And Rust casting a spell on fender and door fitment! OK!! I had my spiel!! As said above, start at 1/4 and get the door adjusted. I like to do it with striker off. HOPE your hinges are ok. You will have to remove fender to really get it right. Sounds like something going on with the cage nut at bottom. It might be screwed up and need fix. When the 68 I have back, was painted, the fenders had been off for cut in and they put the driver one on ALL wrong. They had shimmed and done all wrong. Had to remove fender, loosen door and start over. A bad clip(s) could also be a prob. If the cage nut is missing and a new one won't stay in-lost one forever in the outer rocker on a 65. Might be hokey and was tired of f****** around, fashioned a plate out of metal-thickness of inner apron. Drilled hole in center, welded a 5/16 nut to it and fitted the plate to the recessed area and got it flush. Ran in a sheetmetal on each end. It worked well on a 65 GT Cv. That was about 6 years ago. (That car got a Gold last Sat at an MCA judged event! Door fender adjustments and other seams got thumbs up by a judge} It is a repair that can be successfully done, especially on a freshly painted car. With fender off you can chase the threads on your clips if one has crud or paint in it. YOUR HOOD STRIPES LOOK GREAT!!
