My Edelbrock Performer RPM works with my D00E heads (I don't remember if they are 69' or 70'). A couple of things you need to watch for.

#1 is get the right intake gasket. I believe it was the Felpro #1250 is kind of universal 302/351 or use 351W intake gasket.

#2 is you need to drill the heads so that a couple of the steam passages match up or your motor will overheat.

I apologize for the confusing post I linked to. I was just trying to get all the questions answered.

#3 is that the head bolts for the 302 are smaller (7/16" instead of 1/2") so you either drill and tap the block to use the larger 351W head bolts (yuck), get shouldered bolts, or get special washers that take up the slack. Cheapest I found were the washers, Edelbrock part number 9680 for $45.

I have the same set-up, except I have 70 heads, and a 289. Basically the same info to apply here too??? Thanks for the space and info.

William, I believe the 69' and 70' heads are fairly identical and so are 289/302 blocks. All issues apply on both years and blocks.

Thanks you Jerry, and sorry for the intrusion Nick, just thought this would be easier than starting my own thread on the same subject.

No worries William,

I like getting the real time info from people that have either done what I am trying to do, or are in the same boat as me. I still don't know if I am going this route or not. New aluminum heads sound pretty nice too.

However for the price of aftermarket heads I can get a set of rebuilt 351W heads and new coated hooker comps.

65ACode, I had already purchased some stock 351W heads in anticipation of building my motor. It only took about 5 years from the date of that purchase to start. Between the cost of the heads, getting the screw in studs and having them shaved I don't want to think about how much they cost. They only had 5K on a valve job so I didn't pay for a valve job anyway. If I had not already bought them I would have gone with some World Products or other cast iron head, saved some money and got better performance.
