What will happen if I have a 6 cyl coil spring on an 8 cyl car? will it make the car lower? My tire is touching my fender when I turn. Will a stffer shock absorber help?

Shock may help temporarily, but it's not the solution. You need SPRINGS!

You also need to take into consideration what your plans for the car are. My wife's 66 was originally a 6 cylinder but the previous owner made it into an 8. When I got new springs all around I got coils for a 6 because of the plans we had for the engine.

I put aluminum heads (-50 lbs.) and intake manifold on the engine as well as a fiberglass hood. The car rides just fine. It also sits properly in appearance anyways.

Before the hood and engine mods you had to drive the car gingerly over a curb as you pulled into a driveway.

The shocks dont hold up the car, the springs do, so no they wont help... David F.

Yes, you're right on the dot, it is happening on the passenger side. Why is it happening on the passenger side specifically?

How about the rear leaf springs? Do I need to change them also?

I don't know, mine does the same thing, but I have 15x7 wheels with 225 60's on it. My rear end rubs on the same side. As far as leafs go, as long as they still have a good arch to them, they should be good.

just a suggestiong but if the coils and the leafs are 40 years old and you are wanting to improve things, go and put v8 springs in and a new set of leafs. You will be glad you did and it is one more thing that you can mark off your list and not have to wonder or worry about it.

Thanks guys for your suggestions, I think I'm gonna buy a pair for my car. NPD has a two kinds of coil spring the HD and the standard. Will the HD give a rougher ride than the standard? I'm thinking of softer springs bec we have rougher roads here.

I would just go with the standard, the stiffer ones will beat you and the car to death, real fast.

Actually the GT ones arent very stiff. They are rated at something like 260#. Not sure how stiff stock ones are but 260 isnt very stiff... David F.

I encountered another problem just as I looked at my springs. My passenger side shock absorber snapped into two. It might be bec of the soft springs wherein the shocks couldn't handle the bumps.

yes I did actually but I think the previous owner cut the springs, that is why the shocks misaligned
