Let me be the first to welcome you to M&M. Excellent site with lots of good input - just stay away from the political stuff unless you really want to make a career of defending your views. We all have our opinions, it's just that everybody but me is wrong Switch for reverse, I believe should be in the shifter mechanism inside the car. May be wrong but if so, someone else will correct. If you haven't noticed, there are members from around the world on this site. Good to have another "international" writer. ------------------ SkinnyMan Tupelo, MS Thank you, Thank you very much!

Welcome to MustangsAndMore! The backup light switch is incorporated into the neutral safety switch, and it is mounted on the side of the transmission. Later cars, 69-73 it would typically be on the shift lever inside the car. For stick-shift cars it is mounted on the shift linkage on the side of the trans under the car. If you can safely raise the car enough to crawl under there it will be a relatively simple project to do. It is mounted with two small (3/8" head) bolts and the mounting holes are slotted for adjustment. You need to start with the shift linkage in good operating condition (no slop) and properly adjusted. Sometimes the lights not working is because the wrong bulbs have been installed. It requires a 1142 bulb, not 1157 as many people have tried. To by-pass the switch and see if the rest of the circuit is working properly (bulbs, wiring, sockets) you can unplug the switch at the firewall and put a jumper wire across the two wires that are black with red stripe. Then turn the key on, and the back-up lights should turn on. If they don't, the switch isn't the problem, or at least it isn't the ONLY problem.
