I have some Drag shocks I want to throw in when I go to the track. I have a export brace that mounts to the shock towers. Manual says to take off the upper mounting bracket that is secured w/ 3 nuts. I really don't want to
take those off as those nuts hold the export brace on and I had a hell of a time getting on. It seems if I just unscrewed the 2 top nuts from the shock itself I could pull it out the top( of course once the bottom nuts are removed as well). Any reason I couldn't just leave the upper mounting brackets alone and do that?

chances are the bottom of the shock will be too large to come up thru the center of the bracket.

You should be able to take off the three nuts and the upper bracket while leaving the studs and export brace in position.

Give it a try, I just did mine that way. I just unbolted the shock top and bottom then pulled it up and fished it out of the tower. My problem came when installing the new ones. The Edelbrock IAS shock has a huge tube and wouldn't fit back in so I was back to removing the towers. But the Drag shock has a thin tube so it should work.
