took my wife to a Dr. appointment this morning...on the way from there, I decided to get on the interstate...first time the new 65 coupe has been over 50mph....got up to around 60 and hit a rough section of highway...thing bounced so much I thought it was going to go sideways !!!....I know the left tie rod end needs to be replaced and the steering (manual) needs to be adjusted to take out a little play, but everything else looks good....it's got new tires and new front shocks..... It's been a long time since I've had this body style Mustang...is this normal or could the tie rod end cause that kind of problem or should I be looking for something else ???------------------ Without life there could be no music, but without music, there can be no life. 1973 Convertible, 1965 A Code 4spd coupe, Past: 1969 GT, 1967 6cyl coupe, 1968 coupe Two Rivers Ford, Parts Dept., Nashville, TN www.geocities.com/littlewhitecoupe www.geocities.com/jezebeldream www.geocities.com/my73conv

My old 68 coupe did the same thing when I got it back in 82. I ended up replacing upper & lower ball joints, tie rod ends & new shocks to fix the problem. Rough gravel roads around Colorado Springs really trashed the suspension.

If it doesn't fix it, start checking for threads on bump steer etc. I now have a new philosophy on the steering of 65-70 Stangs. If everything is NEW and exactly as original, the steering will be just about acceptable.

How is the alignment? A bad alignment can cause the high speed behavior you describe.Bumpsteer is a hot topic with people who have done the Granada swap and are running big rims and tires (16" 17" rims. I can't even begin to explain it but it has to deal with how your alignment changes when the front end unloads. It should not be a problem with stock suspension. Phil

My 65FB is WAY better than I ever remember the 68 coupe being after replacing all the front end parts. Maybe it's the Shelby parts up front that make the difference??? Handles like a slot car instead of a snow saucer on ice...

I can't believe that you guys don't like the feel of floating down the highway getting blown around by passing vehicles. hehe. Mine feels just like an old Cadillac. Thanks for the link senzstang. I'll be needing to refer to it when I continue the work on my car.

"floating" isn't the problem...it's when you hit a bump in the road and it feels like a mark-48 detonated off your bow

Improperly inflated tires, too hard or too soft of a combination of both.Loose front hubs on front bearings. This happened to my 67 coupe. It literally jumped a few inches to both sides at freeway speeds. Repacked the front bearings and took out the play cured that problem. ------------------ reliving youth
