I know the topics been beaten like a rented mule but I just want to make sure before I dive into it when I get back from school over break.Planning on front discs and new rearend so its the perfect time when everything is apart and the car is out of comission. From what I've read the drop itself will lower the car at most a 1/2 inch. With the lowering leafs in the rear Im looking to drop the front down more than that. So if I take 1/2 or full coil out of the current springs (6 month old V8 springs) or if I pick up some 1'' drop springs, will I run into problems with the ball joints binging up?? I did a 1 inch shelby drop (and you are correct it results in about a 1/2 inch lost ride height). I added some stiffer drop springs, but it left me too low, so I used a coil spacer (1 inch) I think overall I lost about an inch over stock at most. No binding. This is on a 68. I think the binding problem comes from trying to do more than a 1 inch drop or with more extreme lowering. Now I will tell you that bump steer has become noticable, but I took the power steering off so that has made that more noticeable anyway. ------------------

I've done the shelby drop with great results. Lowering the upper arms 1" on the frame won't induce binding, but more than 1" will. You can basically use whatever coil spring you'd like, as long as the upper arm isn't lowered more than 1".I've got a write-up on this upgrade at: http://www.geocities.com/2bav8/granada.html#shelby

Ok thanks guys! Nice write up on that! I think Im just going to cut maybe a 1/2 a coil out of the springs I have in the car, Ill do the drop first and see how it looks with new wheels and tires, then if it needs to drop more Ill cut the spring, then take it to get aligned again. ------------------ Massachusetts Maritime Academy 2009 USNR "If it dont go, chrome it" 68 Mustang 302, Weiand & Holley 600, long tubes & flowmaster 40s, 1400watts Winter-discs, rearend, Shelby drop

Wanted to ask this:I also want to do the drop but I already have the 620 drop springs from MustangsPlus. Has anyone done the swap with these springs? If so were there any problems? Thanks for the space. Fellas;Don't forget, that as you cut portions off of your coil springs that the spring rate will go up.... yes, that means they'll be stiffer than they were. Ryan

Im keepin that in mind, a little stiffer of a ride won't bother me to much, personally I think its a little loose even with KYB's.Richard-Looking through past posts, I haven't seen anyone with problems with the 620 springs ------------------ Massachusetts Maritime Academy 2009 USNR "If it dont go, chrome it" 68 Mustang 302, C4, B&M Convertor, Weiand & Holley 600, long tubes & flowmaster 40s, 1400watts Winter-discs, rearend, Shelby drop

I'm using Mustang Plus 620 springs. They are probably closer to a 520 spring, but regardless they work fine. I ended up cutting about 1/2 coil off to further drop the front end.

Can't you apply a little more toe in to help with that Phil? I thought I saw an article in Mustang Monthly about this, but not certain. ------------------ William M&M# 4256 MCA# 64831 68 Coupe 289 C4 3:55's/Trac-Lok
