I have a chance to buy a 3.55 8-inch LSD center section from a Mustang II for my 65 Mustang with a C-4 automatic. Before I dish out the cash, will this work in my car? The yoke looks smaller than the 65, if so, can it be swapped out? What do you guys think of the 3.55 gears? I have 24 inch dia. tires, and do a little highway driving, so revs will be high at 65-70 mph. Any help would be appreciated.

I have 3.55's, and the rpm's went up a little at highway speeds, but nothing drastic. I was running 2.79's before these. I'm also running 295 50's in the rear. Hope this helps some .------------------ William M&M# 4256 MCA# 64831 68 Coupe 289 C4 3:55's/Trac-Lok

Sorry, I don't have any experience about what yoke comes on a MII or what yoke you have now. Shooting from the hip though, I'd say they should swap out ok... Regarding highway rpms being higher, higher than,,,what? What rearend gear ratio are you running now? If you can determine your current rearend ratio, you can determine the highway rpms (if you don't have a tach now) by using this formula and then plug the 3.55 gear into the formula and compare.... http://users.erols.com/srweiss/calcrpm.htm If you plug in the values of: 65mph, a 3.55 gear, on a 24" tire, C-4 high gear of 1.0 .........it gives you 3230rpms. Is that "too high"? That's up to you. I'd suggest that if you'd do more than 25 highway miles one way @ 3200+ rpms and if you have a "performance" exhaust system, you may want to wear ear plugs for the drive! Good Luck! Ryan

William, Keep in mind that your 295/50 tires (I'm assuming they're on 15" rims) is quite a bit taller than Dustin's 24" tires. Your tirs are probably about 2.7" taller. So when YOUR tire diameter is plugged into the formula; http://users.erols.com/srweiss/calcrpm.htm 65 mph 3.55 gear 26.7" tire C-4 3rd gear of 1.0 ...give you just 2904 rpms. ...300+ rpms less than what Dustin would see with his 24" tires. The swap is a piece of cake. The yokes can be interchanged as well. Thanks Ryan, I can't really tell how much it threw it off, but the speedo is wrong now. I was just going by the tach, and it jumped up to right around what you have posted. I don't get on the highway much any more tho, Hell I don't even drive it much any more, bad starter pinion/flex plate makes it too hard to start. I wish I knew 1/2 of what you know about these cars .------------------ William M&M# 4256 MCA# 64831 68 Coupe 289 C4 3:55's/Trac-Lok

I picked up the center section this evening and it has the same measurements as my stock axle. Thanks for everyone's input. Mike
